Im 21 year old student and bumped into a guy in an arcade who gets £250 a week on benefits (claiming incapacity benefit :P) (although hes completely normal). i was just wondering what the situation is on students claiming the doll, can they do it? if not would claiming be likely to get me in trouble??

sorry,not too sure of your actual 'doll' entitlement or indeed anybodies ,although my 2 year old daughter seems to think she is entitled to play with hers and no government benefits officer has so far visited us to discuss.


as for benefits i think you have to be actively seeking employment for jsa.
incapacity is probably the next biggest scam to m.p's expenses,widely abused by lazy good for nothing blaggers.
should you not be getting some kind of benefit for being a student?

Sorry I can't offer any advice - not having had anything to do with claiming (any sort of benefit - apart from a piddly £8 a week I get for my child!!!)

I'd hazard a guess that claiming as a student might be a bit naughty - are there not other benefits if you're in full-time education?

My 'step-son' can't claim that EMA support either as I take home over £33k a year - which I tell you what, is NOT that easy to survive on when you have a family of 6 to keep happy!

As an aside - what's this with MPs spending £2.5k of OUR MONEY on a sofa when the elderly need to survive for A WHOLE YEAR on the state pension is £4.5k?

To claim the "dole" you have to be available for work, which if you are a full time student you can not be. How about getting an evening job or a weekend job.

ps It still annoys me that someone has been in education three quarters of their life can not even spell dole.

with 6 hours of lectures a week??? surely all you'd have to do would be to intentionally screw up the interviews for potential job posts. i cant claim any of the student allowance things because my dad earns just above the threshold

Yep you definitely can't claim if you are a student. Get a student loan like the rest of us! I have a £14,000 debt through uni, though they can swivel for that at the moment.

Then why don't you do what the majority of us had to do when we were students - GET A FUCKING JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :x

You need to do less than 16 hours to claim JSA.

It takes into account any time you have in lectures, and also any time you take outside of the lectures relating to the lectures, and basically any full time uni course is full time, hence you are not actively seeking work.

For example if you have 6 hours of lectures, and for example are sposed to do 2 hours of personal learning for every hour, that's 18 and makes you inelligible for JSA.

If you play for a living, you're a scumbag if you claim the dole. No discussion needed, it's that simple. Plus the fact that it's probably -EV to disrupt a route to go to the job centre to sign in/screw up job interviews anyway.

If you're a student, as matilda says, get a job!!!
