outside interests / passions
somebody remarked in another thread that fruitchat was dying a slow death ,
thats a bit strong in my opinion , it has been quiet of late , but there's not really much fruit related stuf to talk about ,,,,,,,,, im sure things will pick up with the imminent arrival of the 70s.
anyhow in an (vain & no doubt lame) effort to keep things alive and entertaining , im starting a thread for people to shout out there passions (outside of gambling ) , however weird n wonderful , ,,,,,,,,come on dont be shy , and dont worry about ridicule , everyone takes the piss out of mine , and i honestly dont mind its all part of the fun and banter. ,,,,,,,,
for me its superhero's (no surprise lol) films and videgames ,
so dont bother reading any further if your not into any of these , as it's bound to get boring , self indulgent and mushy , YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED . just write your own.
SUPERHERO'S
at 7 years old , i still couldn't read , anything , not my name , NOTHING. ,,, i was unruly , hyperactive , wild , with no intrests except mischief . my parents were at their wits end with worry , and the teachers at school didn't know what to do either ,
then one day my dad took me to see superman the movie ,,,,,,,,,, everything changed from that moment , i was enthralled , i couldn't believe what i had seen , and i needed more.
shortly after my dad bought me the comics , and i realised there was only so much info i could learn from the picture's ,,,,,,,, i needed to learn to read , and finally i had the incentive . the passions grew from character to character , and with it came so much more, not just reading, but values , , values that carried with me into adult life, ,, they tought me right from wrong , good from evil etc , they moulded my personality to what it is today , more-so than any teacher could have ever done ,,,,,, to this day i have never ever smoked , drank alcohol or taken any drugs of any kind. im always kind and respectful to anyone i meet , and (short of bandit related innocent mishaps) have never ever been in trouble with the police , ,,,,,,,,, today at 37 im an avid a fan as ive always been , and superhero's in whatever media form ,,,,,, remain MY BIGGEST PASSION .
if you've got this far , i commend you ,,,,,, i told you it would get boring and self indulgent .
(just slipping a bloop in here to keep george on his toes lol)
time for the rest of you to have a go ,,,,,, before i continue this 3 part series (oh no , cries from the back ,,,,, not more pointless drivel lol) with videgames and films.

I personally need more interests outside of work, it's almost as though as soon as I've finished machines for the day I get bored, and at the moment I'll just get back, take a sleeping tablet and then go online for an hour before the tablet takes effect, not good.
It's difficult because I find it hard to find something which I'm actually interested in, have a very limited attention span which I think is why I detest long winded emptiers/methods, I get bored so easily.
As far as interests go, I used to go up to Spurs (had a season ticket for about 6 years) but my mates stopped going as they moved away/had kids etc so I didn't bother renewing this season, I can't play football any more because I just get injured every time I play (broken arm and wrist, fractured foot, broken finger, torn bicep) even though I play in goal!
I just started the cricket season yesterday which was good, and to relieve some of the boredom when I get home I've joined the blockbuster online site which is well good value, gonna try and watch a dvd most nights when I get back from work.
Sometimes I can while away an hour or two look at tattoo designs online, but I'm trying to stop my addiction to them before I get covered, love the pain and after I had my back finished this week I'm gonna try and stop for a while lol
I've got a ton of consoles but lose interest pretty quickly, only really enjoy playing pro evo on xbox live, but as anyone who has played that game on live will tell you it can be more annoying than a fucking about fruit when the guy you are playing has red connection, just wanna smash the tv lol :x
I do try and go to the gym but I'm lazy too so only usually go 1/2 times a week even though it's practically next door to my flat, well having a quizzy I can get to for 9am every day usually puts paid to that.

Bored of the grind.
Apart from working three jobs (to pay for my gambling addiction) I have a fair amount of "hobbies".
First up and now ceased. Used to buy and sell mint stamps as a youngster as a way of making money. Still got a collection hidden in the attic somewhere. Especially Jersey, Guernsey and Isle Of Man. Best find was buying a postal due stamp for 20p which was worth £20.
Secondly I collect films and television series from the 1960's and have a collection of nearly all the ITC series. ITC was created by Lew Grade (uncle of Michael Grade, ex BBC chairman, now with ITV) and made a huge amount of the shows in the 1960's and 1970's. Classics such as The Saint, The Prisoner, Man In A Suitcase, Jason King and The Persuaders. Also all the Gerry Anderson productions (Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Stingray, Joe 90, Space 1999, Terrahwks) ITC were responsible for bringing The Muppets to the UK also. They made several films including Capricorn One, The Eagle Has Landed, Return Of The Pink Panther and The Muppet Movie. Also have a complete set of The Avengers (some are lost because they weren't recorded, doh) and The Prisoner and several books and related stuff on the two shows.
Also, a collection of horror films and books from mainly the period 1960-1980, when Britain had a film industry included most of the films produced by Hammer, AIP, Tigon and Amicus. Favourite horror actor must be Vincent Price.
My other passion is for cops/spies shows, especially classics from the same era. The Sweeney, The Professionals, Special Branch, Man From Uncle amongst others.
Also comedy shows such as Steptoe and Son, Porridge, Rising Damp, (original) Reggie Perrin, Citizen Smith, Red Dwarf, Dads Army, Likely Lads. Films including The Ealing classics and St Trinian's quadrilogy.
Finally in this field:a large collection of Sherlock Holmes films and television series from the 1930's to the present day including versions from Russia, Canada and Germany.
As for music I have a large collection of all genres of popular music from the 1960's to the late 1990's and probaly close to 3000 CD's filling up our spare bedroom.
One of my other hobbies is quiz shows. Watch stuff like Eggheads, University Challenge and Mastermind regularly and before getting married went to about four quiz nights a week.
Nearly finished.
When younger, used to play snooker to a fairly good standard, making 40-50 breaks quite regularly as a youngster. It was quite difficult to play, as our local working mans club didn't allow under 14's on the table. There were no snooker clubs around at the time.
Penultimately my other sporting interest lies in horse racing and get to mix business with pleasure by working at both Ascot and Newbury. The greatest horses I have ever had the privilege to see include Dancing Brave, Nashwan, Dubai Millennium, Denman, Best Mate and Desert Orchid.
Finally as a gambler my downfall is roulette, but have an interest in all aspects of the industry, including the history of gaming machines, the mathematics and probabilty side and am currently working my way through some pretty heavy duty poker tomes to improve my game.
As you can see, I am stuck, like John Simm in Life On Mars in about 1972.
Be seeing you.

I see your Eurovision Song Content, and I raise you a Wrestling / WWE fan.Istenem wrote:eurovision song contest.
hopefully this makes me the saddest fruitchatterer.
To the extent where my mate has bought front-row tickets for WWE Raw at the Braehead Arena in November.
It should be a laugh. Getting pissed up and shouting abuse at these behemoths of men from 6ft away. I'd imagine they'll censor any signs that you bring along, but I might try to slide in a "Sook ma dobber Big Show" and see if that slips through.

My main interests are football, pool, films, videogames and poker.
Poker is mainly recreational but any profit is good, I watch most sports but football is the daddy and I watch it at all levels too. In fact, 13 years I had the opportunity to sign for Leigh RMI (when they were in the Conference) but the Sunday prior to me signing forms I suffered a pretty bad injury which put the kibosh on that and I haven't played since.
I think I've said before I play pool to a decent standard and because I'm a big kid at heart I will always play videogames. As for films I enjoy most genres but having 2 kids who hate going to bed early its becoming increasingly difficult to find time to watch anything, yet I still buy more and more films.
For the record and this is my own personal opinion the best actor of my generation is Denzel Washington - never seen him in a bad film (obviously not every film is Oscar worthy
) and my favourite film of all time is Leon. Brilliant film and Gary Oldman steals the show.
Bring me everyone
What do you mean "everyone"?

videogames
now firstly when it comes down to videogames , be it pc , console , arcade , whatever ,,,, the one thing that gets my goat is when people say my console is better than yours etc ,
differing systems have differing strenths n weaknesses granted but
A GREAT GAME IS A GREAT GAME , REGARDLESS OF SYSTEM,,,,,,,, END OF
and ive been privileged to own more than most
the only thing ive never had is a pc ,,,,,, couldn't be arsed with setups/system requirements , mouse/joystic drivers , etc etc ,,,,,,,,, i just want to plug and play .
now for those of you approaching my years , may remember the old bat n ball tv games , usually made by companies like grandstand etc ,,,,,,, well this was where it started for me.
they usually had an assortment of games like tennis , football etc , but all the same , some even had a gun attachment where you could aim at a white square , very basic , but fun nonetheless .
next for me (when i was around ten ) came the atari console , amazing at the time , bundled with combat , and over the next two years , i managed to save paper round money/birthdays etc , to build up a few classics like berserk ,frogger , amidar , megamania , pole position , pitfall , boxing , the ill-fated et , and best of all the amazing empire strikes back . happy times .
then at around 12-13 years old , came the machine that really got me hooked to videogames in such a way that from that day forward would be no turning back.
the unbelievable commodore 64 , what an amazing time for videogames , this is where many of today's programmers cut there teeth , ,,,, some of my best games of all time remain with the 64. ,,,,,, classic original innovative games and some great arcade conversions , ghosts n goblins , wizball , way of the exploding fist , green beret , turrican , the list is endless , bruce lee , new zealand story , rastan saga , barbarian , ik+ , and the masterpieces that were the last ninja games , and the sound ,,,,,, my god the soundtracks composed on the humble sid chip were nothing short of genius , try the aforementioned last ninja wasteland track for instance , or sanxion , monty on the run ,,,, any of the ocean loader tunes , ,,,, a lot of you young uns simply wont understand , but for those of you who were there , ,,,,,, pure gaming nirvana .
then i upgraded to the commodore amiga , which although had a major leep in visuals , and a few bona fide classics (lemmings anyone ? ,,, little bastards) , somehow lost the magic ,,,,, set by the 64 .
my m8 had the nes , and super mario bros was indeed superb ,,,,,,,,, but it had no hope of matching the latest arcade visuals , neither did the master system from sega,,,,, despite them both having some decent games , i just didn't get into them ,,,,,, by this time though i was used to playing much better games in the arcades , and sick of getting ripped off with piss poor shoddy home versions .
then came the megadrive from sega ,,,,, awesome system ,,,,,,, finally a machine that was more than capable of "taking the arcade experience home" . superb conversions , golden axe , outrun , ghouls n ghosts , super hang on , etc ,,,,,, remember when you first soar the conversion of strider ,,,, wtf ? ,,,, astounding , how was this possible on a home system ? frigging amazing , not to mention some astounding originals from sega like quackshot , rambo3 , revenge of shinobi, castle of illusion , mercs , shadow dancer and the toooo awesome streets of rage series ,
the snes came next , and although it had some awesome games from mario , zelda etc , and the then almost perfect street fighter 2 ,,,,,,,, i still preferred the megadrive , it seemed more edgy , adult , sharp , fast ,
then the playstation ,,,,,, but more on that in a mo
then the n64 , with the totally awesome triplets that were ,,,,, ocorina of time , super mario 64 and goldeneye.......... perfection .
now we come to the playstation ,,,,, the machine that killed the arcade ,,,,, because graphically they couldn't keep up , ,,, the arcades got desperate and started to stick all manor of ridiculous gizmos on em ,,,, like machine guns , guitars , etc ,,,,,, but it was too late ,,,,,,, average joe wasn't gonna splash out a quid a pop in an arcade for 10mins fun , when he could spend 30 on an often superior version for the playstation , and play it for as long as he likes.
forgetting great systems like the dreamcast , gamecube saturn etc ,, just no space
in fact it was probably time to wrap this up some time ago .
so ill finish up by saying , i currently own the 60gb ps3 , and although it has some great next gen games ( uncharted anyone ?) , its mostly used for playing old classic arcade compilations like taito legends / capcom classics etc .
but mostly for sprouting bollocks to you lot on here ,,,, lol :P
anyhow videogames ,,,,,,,,,,, my second greatest passion.

As an even older git than trayhop I even remember playing the first ever commercial video game, Pong. Basically a paddle on the left and right . If you missed the ball the opponent got the point. First to eleven wins.
Then the phenomenom that was Space Invaders. I reckon that I was one of the best players in my hometown at the time (Reading). Once played four hours on one credit, scoring 116,990 (gave up in the end). There was about twenty people in the arcade watching. The game was so popular that there was a tournament in Readings biggest theatre, The Hexagon (home to the snooker team world championship a long time ago, also). They put in a different machine than I was used to (The Invaders, faster bullets, as seen in The Nags Head in the very earliest Only Fools and Horses) and came nowhere. Was really good at the following also, Gorf, Galaxian, Qix, Robotron, Defender, Scramble and pretty average at stuff like Donkey Kong, Pacman, Phoenix and Missile Command. As for home games systems my first was the Atari 2600. The graphics were very poor by todays standards but it was the gameplay that more than made up for it. Over the years I have had an Amiga 500 computer, several PC's and laptops, but as consoles go the usual stuff like Megadrive, Dreamcast, Gamecube, Sega Saturn, Playstation 1, 2 and 3 and X Box 360. Not forgetting hand helds like Gameboy. Wasn't much of a Street Fighter or Mortal Combat fan TBH.
