DVD Drive

Post by bigv038 »

My DVD Drive has packed up on my pc, is it just a case of replacing it, disconnecting the old one and connecting the new one?

If it's a desktop PC, you should be able to replace it easily (and cheaply!). Just literally a case of unplugging the old one (slotting it out of the casing, too) and inserting the new one.

Laptops, are more bloody involved - don't I know it! :(

Yeh, if its a couple of years old its more than likely an IDE drive (connector is a 40pin rectangle shape). So be careful to pick an IDE model and not a SCSI / SATA.

Check the jumper settings on your existing drive to see if its M, S or CS (master, slave or cable-select) and replicate this on your new drive.

http://www.ebuyer.com are usually good on prices + service.

:D

Yeah it's a desktop PC thankfully and that's what I thought, thanks for confirming

Great site that! I managed to get a really high-performance gaming PC from those guys for a shade over £600 notes - by buying all the parts separately and building it myself. The ONLY way to buy a PC... ;)

Yep! You got that right...

I built mine from bits (ebuyer.com / scan.co.uk and a few cabling bits from ebay.co.uk)

This picture was when I was still putting it together with the temperature sensors stuck on with tape LOL, a year later, its still the same...
