not if you want to play full hd games in the future... afterall, theres only so much stuff you can fit on a dvd.. and with the blu-ray drive in the ps3 they are going to swing the market within a year....

Well if you can fit huge games like Fallout 3 onto a normal disc and games with the scope of Far Cry 2 onto a single disc, then us 360 folk have nowt at all to worry about.

over the years , i must have owned every system made , from the humble pong tv game , to the current ps3,,,,,,
why do people moan about , my consol is better than yours bollocks????
honestly A GREAT GAME IS A GREAT GAME , REGARDLESS OF SYSTEM.
i only dumped the 360 in favour of the ps3 , when i had 5 rrod on me in two years.
360 has superb games but shit hardware .
honestly some of my best gaming experiences come from the humble likes of the atari , cbm 64 , amiga , megadrive snes , etc
people who say my system is better than yours , are just trying to justify buying it ,,,,,,,
the grass always seems greener when a consol specific game comes out.
the truth is consols all have there strenths n weaknesses , different additions like the ps3 has blu ray , the wii control system.,,,,,,,, etc ,,,,,
its all healthy competition from the manufacturer's to tempt you to part with your hard earned .
but when it comes to gameplay ,,,,,,,,,,, there is no ultimate system .
i chose the 60gb ps3 , simply because it plays all my old playstation2 compilation packs like capcom classics , midway, taito legends etc ,,,,,,, and loads of top new ps3 titles too,,,,
plus the blu ray , and internet browser are sweet.
yous pays ya money , yous live with ya choice

yes yes yes all that written above is fine..
but the fact of it is:
as far back as pre 16bit "consoles", master system, nes, then megadrive, snes game boy, ds etc etc
throught the generations of consoles there have been a trend to extend on previous technology and improve
the fact of the current "new/next gen" consoles is, that the wii, technically isnt one... nintendo dont compete for the latest technology anymore, and havent for nearly 20 years, they go for inovation and fun concepts... light guns, motion sensitive glove, motion sensitive controllers...
the wii's target audience is the less serious gamer, familys, kids, and also at people who deem video games to be for couch potatoes, to get them up and active, a halfway point between "real" video gamers/spotty nerds and actually going outside and playing sport.
the xbox was created by microsoft, as a platform to release games to maximise the technology at the time and provide a gaming console that was up to the task of providing hi-end pc gaming without a £3000 pc setup
the playstation one by SONY-- leading electonics company in the world??? was the result of a hybrid of other games consoles---a japanese cd based console, the amiga cd32, the sega dreamcast, the ps1 was the whole lot, pushed together and made right... correcting the mistakes of the others
from this came the ps2, untill the ps2 was a year old, the programmers hadnt really worked out what to do with it, and the last ps1 games to be made, were actually better made games than the first ps2,
the ps2 was also a dvd player, and at the time, everyone had a bit of a shock, dvds were great, but they cost £20 each, and not many people owned dvds within the first 2 years of it coming out as the standalone players cost £1000
now, the xbox 360 came out, promising hi def games, from a dvd drive, a hd-dvd upgrade was available, and you plugged it it and got hd-dvd quality video and 40gigabyte disks...
the ps3 came out and had blu-ray
anyone old enough to remember betamax vs vhs will relate to the fact that there is only room for one new type of mass-availablity video media storage in one go, too many conflicts between which type to buy, and which type the films will come out on...
blu-ray won.
so the xbox360 already has an obsolete hd-dvd drive on it, with no plans to make a blu-ray alternative... meaning the games are limited to 4gig dvds... the ps3 can have 40gig blu rays
both consoles have 1080p hdmi graphics, but the ps3 version of games will obviously start to utilize this more and more, whereas the xbox is limited to a tenth of the storage space on each disk.. even if they encode the video and unencode it to the hard drive, the ps3 can still have 10x the data...
so, the xbox will still have the same titles, and they will HAVE to be scaled down to normal definition, whereas the ps3 version of the games will be put in with full 1080p....
at the minute, all the games that are coming out are either ported to both consoles, but as the programmers for ps3 start to work out the capabilities, they will be getting the better game releases,
so call of duty 4 might be the same on both at the minute... call of duty 5 was a bit rushed.. but just wait till call of duty 8 is out this time in two years, but at this point, it will be probably only on ps3, and the xbox will just get used as a doorstop with 4 flashing red lights on the front.
i too have had more or less every console in the last 15/20 years.. some have been good, some shite.. if i could choose now, id have my amiga. as it was a halfway point, it wasnt literally pong or dug dug, but it did have many classic coin-op convertions which were real GAMES, i dislike the newer more "realistic" games, cause they just seem like an escape from reality, not an enjoyable "game"
if you wanna shoot people, go paintballing... or join the army...
if you want a realistic car simulator, go to a racetrack
if you wanna turn into a dinosaur and shoot bubbles at people... get a games console from the mid 80's - 90's
i wonder how many points i get for this post?

also, i forgot to mention, people arent noticing that dvds prices are dropping rapidly for a reason, i see people in supermarkets buying them for £2 each, buying four or five films at a time...
this is exactly what happened in 1999 when dvd came out.. vhs videos dropped by 3/4 of the price, and dvd players dropped by 90%
this will happen to blu-rays before the end of this year, almost everyone in the country will get one for xmas the year after when they are £40 from tesco

When video cassettes were first introduced there was no sell through market. You would have to pay about £60-70 to buy one.

no gumsy ,,,,,, im not saying any console is better than any other ( in gameplay terms ) .
the big 3 have all got their scorchers , and their dumpers .
im saying look at the games first , and decide which system has the most titles you want to play ,,,,,,
also decide what you want it to do aswell as play games ,
as far as extras ,,,,,,,,, the ps3 with its web browser ( fine for porn vids , youtube , fruitchat etc) and support for photos , tunes , etc ,,,,,, not to mention superb blu ray playback ,,, is the most versatile , and nobody can argue with that ,,,
plus if you buy a psp ,,,,, you can access your ps3 hard drive (for vids , certain games , tv with optional freeview tuner) from any wi-fi point in the world .
if you just want games ,,,,, ide get the 360 , it has masses of top titles .
if you have kids , the wii .
like i said , ya pays ya money , ya lives with ya choice .
ps if you have the means ,,,,,,, you could get all 3 lol :P
