I know there's a sister board relating to fruit and chat, but I couldn't find it, so I'll have to post this here.
At the bottom of my garden is a pear tree. Basically I was mowing my lawn today and met the people at the back of the garden, so neighbours of sorts, but living on a parallel street. They mentioned that the tree was getting too high and blocking out the light to their garden later on in the afternoon. I agreed to prune it, but then wondered if I had been too soft.
It's at a very rough guess about 25ft tall. All I have is a ladder and a manual wood saw. The tree is on my land, but the branches overhang the boundary onto their land. I was planning on trimming back a few conifers on the back bonudary to allow some of the other fruit trees to grow. I have 2*apple, 1*cooking apple, 1*plum, 1*pear. The crop has been poor this year. Possibly due to overcrowding, poor seasonal weather and 'apple moths' ruining what fruit was produced.
I'm looking for ideas on what the position is with trees and neighbours. I mean to be honest this tree doesn't bother me at all but then you don't want to upset the neighbours do you? I can prune the apple trees and cut back the conifers, but this other tree is more of a beast and would probably need someone with a chainsaw and a huge, huge ladder. Then of course is the question of how much to prune it back? I'm wondering whether it's just easier to invite them to do what they wish to the tree.
I mean all the trimming and pruning other tidying of garden I had lined up is a couple of days off the fruits that are more commonly discussed on this board.
