whats the most expensive item you've ever bought using pound coins entirely?
for me i think it was back when the n64 was launched, bought everything, the console, 3 games, extra pad ,etc ,,,, about 400 coins ,,,,,,,, sort of felt embarrassed as it took all the staff in game to count all of them, whilst other customers were getting the arse ,,,, lol
400 not really that much, im sure some of you can do better

Yeah they get twitchy around the £30 mark.
My argument is that bloomin' cards take just as long. You pop 'em in, they dial up, you wait. You key in a pin. You wait. It prints out a load of guff, you wait. You wait some more. You get asked if you want cashback. Yes. All takes time. You wait. Then it says 'card error - please contact bank'. Pound coins are much faster, people should realise this.

Harry, that's useful to know, any link to an official looking document that can be printed off and tucked inside a wallet?

...Then 20 minutes whilst some 'Malcolm' has to unpack all the items that have been loaded into the trolley and return them to the shelves, with little 'Timmy' crying as his mum has had to return his packet of Smarties until 'Daddy arrives' with some hard cash...

over the years i've paid in "hard"cash for new clothes loads of times
people often get twitchy as J.G said, first time they see you, some even display multiple levels of twitchiness . i remember getting a ps2 first day they went down to 200 quid,i was in a choices video shop,i plopped the box on the counter and asked the lad if i could pay in pound coins, he looked on in nervous bemusement but said it was o.k after being gently coaxed by a senior employee.as i started piling them out in tens his hands were a little unsteady and he knocked a couple of stacks over,poor kid ,but hey!, he managed to compose himself and completed the transaction in good style after a shaky start.

paid in tescos with £1's before a few times, dont usually do this if its above £40 cause it does look a bit strange, have done over £150 in the self service tills once though... couple of ps3 games and some shopping,
also on the self service tills, i bought a £400 laptop with £10ers.. at about 3am whilst very very intoxicated.. that was funny!!
i took about £600 into work one day and asked my boss if he could change them up for me.. he didnt even ask where they were from!
most expensive thing ive paid with £1's is probably a bar tab in a restuarant when me and a few mates went out for a meal once and got pissed afterwards... about £200..

the other thing that pisses me off with this scenario is idiots not knowing how to take em
once while paying for a cpl of things, i neatly piled up 6 rows of 10 ,, and explained that he only had to count 1 row, as the others were exactly the same height on the counter ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but no the fuckwit stil had to count the lot

Yep that sorts the poker players and slotmongers from the butter fingers and oopsadaisys.
You line up the coins in lovely chip stacks for quick expection and transferral to the till cassette only for some dopey Doris or munting Malcolm to continually play domino rally with them. Who gets the evils from the queuing customers? Why you do of course!
<Tut>
<Mumble mumble got a taxi waiting outside>
("If you can afford a floopin' taxi to take you shopping you're richer than me.")
<tut tut>
<mumble all those pound coins mumble so inconsiderate mumble wonder where they came from mumble>
<TUT ***SIGH*** TUT>
Evils!
<tic tac TUT!!>

There is such a shortage of metal nowadays that if you melt down £1 oins and make them into ingots they are worth nearly 3p each. My mate Paddy is raking it in emptying Power 5's and getting his brother Seamus to do the smelting.

yep, happens all the time, maybe its a Leicester thing.
i've always changed my coins up every few days if i'm doing ok, keeping a float of £100-£150, the most i've paid out is £40ish in a co-op and got a few stares, i always use notes where possible.
