My 9 month old 360 Elite has just died of the dreaded RED RING OF DEATH syndrome. Gutted.

As for games systems, I love 'em!
As an old-ish man (31) I've been playing since the days of the Speccy, the C64 and the Amstrad CPC. The NES really got me into gaming properly though, half decent graphics, great games. But then came the daddy of consoles in my opinion - the SNES.
What a machine! Yes, graphics have progressed, systems are quicker, storage is better and we now have a great, easy to ues 'Live' service, BUT this is where playability was unparalleled. Super Mario World, S M Kart, Axelay, SF 2; Turbo, Zelda, Secret of Mana, Starwing, Mortal Kombat 2 and F1 Exhaust Heat to name a few. It beat doing homework. :P
Following consoles such as N64, PS1, PS2, Xbox, Gamecube all had classic games but where never quite as enjoyable as the SNES. I've never played or owned a PS3 or a Wii but I think I will if my 360 breaks down again I will - but I really like my 360 and if it has the longevity of the SNES this could be a classic too.
Shitty hardware though and Microsoft treat their customers like tw*ts.

firstly, soz about your 360 man.
i'm 39 and will claim to be so for a few years yet. i started playing around with micro computers on the pet and vic20,memorable games being blue meanies and hmmm a text adventure on cartridge for the vic called, adventure land, and anything by llamasoft.
i got given a mattel intellivision when i was about 12,vastly superior to the atari home console , but always wanted an atari like everybody else, this was coz there was nobody to swap games with.
good games for the intellivision were: tron deadly discs, lock'n'chase and advanced dungeons and dragons.
when i finally got a spectrum by saving up my paper round money, there was a massive ammount of games for it, i liked daley thomsons decathalon alot, those poor old speccy rubber buttons preffered me playing sabrewulf or avalon.
going forward a bit i'll admit to a bit of mario on the nes ,snes and n64 ,and a bit of zelda too.
i liked secret of mana aswell as street fighter on the snes.
n64 picks for me are goldeneye and perfect dark.
on the sony front now doom, wipeout,m.o.h.timesplitters,red faction, baldurs gate, gta, mace griffin, deus ex.resident evil 4 (what a game)
i now own a wii,
it has some rather simplistic games i suppose ,but its got its fun factor too.
some of the best games i ever played are on the classics/retro compilations, these games were a big part of my youth.

When you turn the 360 on a green L.E.D ring flashes around the 'on' button, the RROD means the ring is red and your console is knackered.
I've rang Microsoft and it will be picked up on Friday, then I have a 2-3 week wait for it to be repaired. Unfortunately, the 360 is notorious for the RROD and the liklihood of it breaking down again is pretty high and the 'Elite' model was supposed to be a better, more reliable build. Hmmm.
When I had a whinge about the inconvenience of the situation I was told I would recieve 1 month free XBL Gold Membership. When you consider a 12 month Membership costs £40, 1 month must be worth, let me see, approximately £3.40. That is their value of my loyalty and custom to them and when you compare this to what they offered me when the same thing happened to my Xbox - a controller and a game, it is appalling.
Times must be tough for Gates family.

when my 4th 360 went up shit creek, i complained, they agreed that the situation was unacceptable and offered me a free game, i thought that seemed ok, but then they told me the list i could pick from hmmmm, yeah thats right the launch titles ,,,,, A i'd already got em and B you could then pick up kameo, resistance etc up town for less than £15
tight bastards.
so glad i got the ps3(60gb) runs all my ps2 and ps1 games, plays bluray, internet browser
whats not to like?
ps im typing on it now
pps lets just hope that microsoft gets it act together for the next cycle 720 or whatever its going to be called, because like the stupid glutton for punishment i am, i'll still be first in line

Goldeneye was awesome back in the day and remember it was a launch title too AND it was a N64 game.
But lets be honest it hasn't aged well, has it? My biggest grumble with this game was ( and the first 2 Tmesplitter games ; same developers) the aiming retical. Rather than the retical staying in the centre of the screen like most FPS's it moved around the screen, it bounced around actually, making precise aiming tricky.
Anyone agree?
