Fecking Bank

Post by Matt Vinyl »

Well, I don't often check my bank balance after payday, as I usually know where I'm at. Anyway, came in after a good evening out, and found that I had £39.78 in my account. Then I noticed I had a 'letter' on my interent banking site, so, I checked it out. I found that I had been charged £39.00 for a Direct Debit of £40.00 being rejected, even though I had £39.78 in there. Hence, furore!!!!!!

I honestly don't believe it - and am going to challenge it all the way.

22p short does not warrant a £39 fine.

Halifax, who gives you extra? Fuck OFF!!!!111 oneoneone

(LOL!)

Matt, I have to be honest: I am at a loss as to why anyone would want an account managed by this bunch of useless twats. And that is what they are. No amount of feckless TV adverts featuring Mr Jam Jar specs will change my opinion on this

I only see one post

I thought banks had their arses skelped for this sort of shenanigans. It has been proven that charges like these are illegal. I'm in the process of claiming back my charges (from HBOS) and they seem to be quite friendly about the whole thing... not quite sure if other banks are better or worse though

Let us know if your claim is successful, and more importantly, if they send you a letter afterwards informing you that they will be closing your account.

Actually, I'm still at the 1st hurdle. Phoned up and asked for statements going back the last 6 years... expected to get hit for a 10er, but they said they would do it gratis. I got a letter about a week later acknowledging my request, but telling me there was a huge backlog so I'd have to wait up to a couple of months. That was a couple of months ago and I still haven't had anything.

I've been with HBOS for 13 years and they've done very well out of me (up till this year I've normally been in the red.. .and they once charged me a whopping £68 for going less than a tenner overdrawn). If they did tell me to get to Feck, they'd be cutting off their nose to spite their face..

But just in case, I've already got a new bank account with Nationwide. One advantage is Nationwide don't charge you for using bank machines abroad.

I'll let you know if there are any developments. Are you going to try and claim that back MattV?

I've had some hassle recently.
Paid some money in on a saturday morning over the counter ready for a D.D to go out on monday. They tried to take out the D.D before they cleared my money so charged me £38 for the failure. But the problem for me is that they didn't tell me what had happened so 10 days later they then take out the D.D but i'm £38 short in the bank than what I know of.
This now took me right upto my O/D limit and so another D.D of just £20 is failed. Again a £38 charge but this time they finally send me a letter to alert me to the problem.
I went a bit nasty with someone at the bank but they'd only refund the 2nd charge for not notifying me.
Yesterday I got a monthly statement showing that the 2nd charge (Of which has now been refunded) took me over my o/d limit and so i've been charged £28 for that too!!! :x
Another trip to the bank for me on saturday.

I'm very suprised at this. With all the grief they are getting over excessive charges I can't believe they are still charging you £38?! or was this a long tim back?

send them a 14 day letter - they have to reply within this time.

then send them a letter telling them your taking court action (MCOL is the best instead of doing it at your local court)

if the dont reply to that within a certain time (28 days i think) you win the case by default.

Lloyds said they'd challenge me but paid in full plus interest before that stage.

i got just under £1000 back.
you don’t just jump into bed with Terry Tibbs, you take Terry Tibbs out to lunch, you wine and dine him, you give him an oil massage then he gives you 1950 if you’re lucky!

What do you mean by a 14 day letter?

The problem I have is that until they send me the statements, I've no idea how much in bank charges I've paid .

And pardon my ignorance, but what is MCOL?

A five page explanation here:

http://money.aol.co.uk/reclaim-bank-cha ... ney_portal

including three pages which are draft letters already written for you to send (just need you own bank details etc put on)

I got a few 100 back no problem with this.

Cheers chaps. My first step then is to chase up my bank about the statement... I asked for it in May, so the 40 day deadline has more than expired.
