Don't get any great ideas about summer just yet! It is just about to turn thoroughly miserable and unsettled for the next 10 days at least. Pathetic really :x

It really depends on what your looking to do. Theres a lot of Scenic places up here, Places like Coniston, Ambleside, Windermere are good, then going further north you have places like Keswick, and Buttermere, etc...

Coniston would be good, might be on the expensive side. Its nicely located, and Coniston Water (see pics above) is a short car journey out of town, along with many of the best walks in the area not far away.

This county is big on Guest Ales, you get them in nearly every pub. Its not much of a fruit machine hotspot! Many pubs in remote places dont have fruit Machines. They are more Beer drinkers pubs, and Family places / Eating places..

Whatever it is you do up here im sure you will enjoy it. theres a lot of places Ive yet to explore (theres 214 Mountains in the north west of England) and ive only been up about 20 max!

Cant help you much with regards to Windermere. Only been there once. We went on the way back from Helvellyn to a pub called the Royal Oak, which honestly served the best pint of Coniston Bluebird ive ever had! :D

Cheers MJD. It's our anniversary so it's just an excuse to get a night away from the kids. The wife thinks she's a bit of a snob so it's gonna be pricey. Only thing on the agenda really is a decent restaurant for Saturday Night. She's into beatrix potter hence looking at windermere/kendall area.

of Course if your feeling really really adventurous you could go up Helvellyn. Thats a belting walk, and my personal favourite :D
