my honest oppinion is they should have gone with a british manager, i think there will be a lot of pist off england fan's this morning. He's not got the job but its his if he wants it. National team managers should be that "THEY SHOULD BE FROM THAT COUNTRY" being a national manager should require patriotism which foreign managers wont give just look at erricsson, berti vogts etc. its a joke

i think they've got the right bloke for the job, his CV is much more impressive than any of the other 'contenders'.

We have perhaps the most talented and skillful group of players england has ever witnessed come through at once why should we waste them by appointing a substandard manager just because he's english?

We dont currently have english managers with the skills for the job, Pearce and Jewel are two of the most promising managers in the game but they are too inexperienced to take the role just yet.

Nice to see the FA have seen the light and appointed on skill, experience and talent instead of just what the passport says.

Also remember how McClaren was tipped as favourite, what the hell were they thinking? He was in the set-up for the last world cup and we went out with a whimper then.

I really wanted Martin O'Neill as manager to be honest. I don't want another foreigner.....

Erikkson had a good CV too, and most fans are sick of him, despite him having a decent record. Has tactical ineptitude recently has been ridiculous. I'll give Phil a chance if he gets the job, but i badly wanted a british manager!!

Martin Oneil IMO isnt that impressive either. Played long ball to the target man at leicester and won a two horse race in the SPL (playing the same tactic)

The only man thats actually been in the frame that provides any inspiration for me is Scolari.

Remember the FA overlooked some of the greatest british managers ever produced in Clough, Paisley and Fergerson why did they feel the need to try to exclusively look at Brits when they're simply not comparable to whats available (or what was, Hiddink IMO would have been the best choice but the fcked that up)

Don't think it was a question of overlooking Ferguson, I don't think he would accept the job!

Fergie would take England down on purpose!

Clough would have been great but he spoke his mind to much for the FA, shame really maybe we would have more than 1 world cup??

to be honest i dont care if he's from mars as long as he gets the best out of a great looking national set up over thenext few years. we have a lot of world class players and a good crop of yougsters so the next six years could be a great time for us and nothing could put a dampner on it more than appointing mclaren or allardyce , this man has won a world cup and took an avreage 'ISH' portugal side to a euro final .
Im pleased they have gone for him to be honest

if the queen died and they said oh lets bring in the queen of spain to take over all hell would break loose and this is just the same for me its about managing your country and taking pride in it , can u honestly see this bloke being patriotic? i cant and what if england win the world cup. Sir philip scolari doest wash with me and im scottish lol i know scotland are shit but im patriotic about my country and so are the majority of the population and when berti vogts was named scottish manager the fans were sending death threats etc and look what he did to us.

we would want someone from scotland someone who would wear the jersey proudly and this guy wont do it for england and the only reason those english fans do want him is because hes won the world cup but it dont mean shit tome if england win anything with him where as if they won it with big sam etcthen id say fair enough but when it comes to international football tell the foreigners to fuck off lol RANT OVER lol

everyone goes on about how good englands squad is soif someone like big sam can take bolton up to the prmiership and keep them there with no money or decent players thenhe is doing something right just because he doesnt win loads doesnt mean he is not capable of being agood england manager because i would havea good team of players to manage.scolari one the world cup with brazil who wouldnt? i mean cmon they are a great side anyone could manage them and still win things . and my last point is what does an english manager have to do to be good enough?

i think because he won the world cup with brazil sum england fans think he will do it with them well i hope he doesnt i hope hefails miserably not because im scottish but because i think it is wrong tolet a foreigner carry the hopes of a nation that he doesnt care about on his shoulders hejust see's it asanotherjob he doesnt see it as being an honary englishman.......ihope he crashes and burns i really do.i know im goinon and on lol buti just feel its wrong for sumone of another nationality to represent another country....

Well Berti Vogts-what can u say?Worst mistake ever tbh, they looked South and appointed a foreigner(unfortunately a totally crap one that should have been sacked a lot earlier). But I wouldn't rule it out again-I get the point about English for England,Scottish for Scotland etc but the point is-who's the best man for the job-not who's the most English,Scottish etc.Mebbe it won't work out if he takes it-mebbe he won't be able to fix what he's exploited-only time will tell that. But obviously the FA feel he is the best man for the job.As for Ferguson being Govan born I really couldn't see him ever taking it-who knows mebbe the experience with Scotland put him off International management? As for him ever taking the Scotland job(i know it wasn't mentioned) why would he risk ruining a great reputation? Anyway that's my tuppence chucked in

Didn't in 1603 (when the Scots took over the throne) and 1714 (Hanover/Germany) ;)

Personlly, I don't care what nationality he is. As long as we win.

Mebbe didn't see it coming entirely-but isn't it just possible he's used it to work a better deal from Potugese FA? Call me cynical but..
