pipe smokers

Post by matt69 »

how many of you smoke a pipe?

as the next big fad, do you think that cigerette smoking would give way to the cheeper, and more sophisticated trend of pipe smoking?

It's hardly the next big fad, since pipe-smoking has been around for centuries.

I'd say it's going to go the other way. Scotland has already banned smoking, England is doing it (half-arsedly) next year. With all the hassle involved with going outside for a smoke, as well as the terrible British weather, I reckon the number of smokers, and the amount of fags smoked, is going to diminish rapidly.

You got any plans to give up UP?

Actually being in Scotland I'd say it hasn't had quite that much of an effect-people just accept they have to go outside instead. It's probably how it'll be in England too.

Most of my friends smoke, and they all seem to have cut down greatly since the ban came in. Yes, they can go outside, but it's not as easy as just sitting on your arse and lighting up. Furthermore, if you're in nightclubs, it can be a bit of a pain in the arse getting outside for one.

I've heard of a pub in Dublin that got round the smoking ban by installing stocks round the side of the pub. Anyone who fancies a fag can stick their arms and head outside and smoke away, whilst still standing in the pub. Must be amusing for passers-by... anyone else heard of this or is complete baloney?
