This may or may not have been done before, but after going back 2 or 3 pages i got bored of looking for a similar thread so lets have a new one!

So, other than fruits and related things, what do other members of the site do in their spare time i wonder.

I love going to raves and things like that (when i can afford it) plus i mix myself too, usually hardcore, both on my 'proper' technic decks, but been fiddling with mp3's using virtual dj pro in more recent times, its not the same as using vinyl though.

Plus cars are a big thing in my life as well, working on my own, doing odd jobs on other peoples motors too, plus my main love, banger racing!

Been on the scene on and off for quite a while now, got into it totally by chance as well.

Was meant to be picking my missus up but she had got really bad flu so said for me not to go round incase i caught it, and she said 'why dont you go and see your mate chris you aint seen him for a while' so i did, but he werent home.

His mam said 'he's up at number 1 helping the lad there build a banger' so i walked up there, my mate introduced me to this lad (james) and the other mechanic there, james then asked me what i was like on the old spanners, i said not too bad (used to be a mechanic when i left school) and he then said 'well you can take carb and distributor unit off that [pointing at a 1300 crossflow engine sat in the garage] and fit them onto that [pointing at another 1300 crossflow lump fitted in a rotten mk5 cortina] if you fancy summat to do', so i did, and thats where it all began, i appeared in his garden that day and pretty much never ever left!

We had a work out about 2 year back about how many cars we must have built since i had been meching with him, his dad had also made a list of the meetings we did in 2004 (might of been 05, one of them anyway) and we had done 58 meetings that year, and not many cars made more than one meeting so we must have built 50 cars in that year alone.

And that was when he had a 3 bedder house on the end of a terrace, a front lawn that could just fit 2 cars side by side on, a small garage where you couldnt even open all doors of a car up without hitting the wall and a drive that you could fit one car on infront of the garage. all his spares were in 2 small sheds in the back garden, wheels and tyres lived in the garden in stacks of 5 or 6 high and all the heavy stuff like engines and gearboxes lived down the side of the wall next to the drive, all tools and the small mig welder rammed to the back of the garage, his transit, trailer, and road car (which had to park on the trailer joined to the van to save space) all parked on the road.

The only thing which wasnt at the house was the old B plate 12.5t ford cargo we had for going to bigger meetings (where we needed the hiab to pull cars straight again) that lived in a borrowed corner of a blokes farm yard a couple of miles away, it was a right old squeeze!

Now we have a substantially larger proper workshop, well, one side of an industrial unit type thing, roller shutter doors both ends, big racking for most of the spares inside, room to park 3 cars at various angles inside the building with all doors open and still oodles of room to move, farkin huge mig welder, proper bench drills, BOC gas bottles for cutting, (welder and BOC shared, drills ours) room out the back for at least 40 cars (if we double stack em) plus the 2 lorries, 2 vans (one recovery pickup/beavertail thing, one normal) the same trailer (which is now nackered) and we have 2 drivers racing full time out of there now, and its the previously disused side of the newer drivers dads work premises, he pretty much said to us if you can be assed to put the graft in and sort it all out (roller doors were seized and fucked, all the outside bit out the back was overgrown etc, had been disused for at least 10 years) then as long as you chip in a bit for the leccy you use and dont take the piss with making mess and rubbish everywhere and noise real late at night then stay here as long as you like.

Couldnt have worked better for us really!

Oh yeah, the girlfriend who had the flu, that i mentioned right at the start, said 'its racing or me' soon after she got over the flu, erm, okiee now, byeee then love! :!:

But more importantly, you may wonder, whatever happened to that mk5 cortina i put the carb and dizzy on......

Nowt wrong with that, trying not to grow up that is, i dont wanna get older either, im achy enough 1st thing in the mornings as it is already, and im only 26!

Racing doesnt exactly help tho, despite all the safety gear you wear, do more than 5 or 6 meetings in one season where you either go crashing or get a pasting yourself and it really is whiplash all year round pretty much.

I havent actually raced myself since '05, had a really crap meeting last outing (mainly coz i thought it was a good idea to race a mk3 fiesta) track was really soaked, almost flooded, never stopped raining all day, there was one dry line round the track, end up off that line and you pretty much fucked, all you do is wheelspin and sink in shale and do about 10mph flat out, then try and get back onto that line, cars going at race speed (about 40mph) coming up behind, get whacked up the ass by them and then your back in the 10mph terratory again, pretty much lose/lose, plus going out with NO brakes whatsoever didnt really do me any favours, i got onto that dry line coming out of the corner, an astra estate picked me up, ran me all the way down the straight full pelt and slammed me into the armco at the other end of the track, the entire front pretty much fell off the car, bent bottom suspension arm, shock absorber and suspension leg bent in half, drive shaft fell out, gearbox smashed, meeting over.

I was a clubber for 9 years, 2000-2009, then redundancy stopped that. I did loads of voluntary work this year and I'm now working again, so clubs should be back on the cards soon. I'm talking trance, progressive house and hardcore. I'm also into club lighting, controlling off DMX, which is the protocol for such lights. Got a few fixtures myself at the moment. Had to downsize, again due to redundancy, and should be picking back up again soon.

Gigging guitarist since January 1990. Played everything from Rock, Metal & Punk to Blues, Folk and Pop. Currently trying to put together a Me First and the Gimme Gimmes style covers band and / or a Green Day tribute.

15 years of martial arts but retired start of this year (injuries mounted up)
Mixture of Sport, TMA and RBSD but always leaning heavily towards effective self protection, rather than non-practical stuff.

I play a lot of cue sports in my spare time....mainly pool and snooker, sometimes 9-ball. I'm pretty decent at pool, play in the top league here, played county and go to the national finals and stuff. High break of 73 in snooker, only really play in the winter though. Play in the top Cambridge league in that too, but to be honest i get hammered a lot of the time as a fair amount of the guys i play are 100+ break makers, and only need one chance to get enough points to put me out of the game! Only had 3 good breaks put in against me last season, record wasn't too bad considering who i played!
( http://www.leaguesnooker.co.uk/league/s ... eamID=5123 )

Fair weather golfer, play lots in the summer, usually shoot anywhere from 95-105ish depending on the day, so i'm ok without being exceptional! An expensive sport to get good at....each game normally sets me back £25-£35 in green fees, fuel, golf balls, drinks and maybe a buggy if i'm lazy!

Love my music, everyone here calls me the man of useless knowledge, as my head is just full of trivia you needn't know, but for some reason I usually seem to know.

Other than that, nights out take up a lot of my funds! Usually 2-3 a week which is at leats £100 down the plug each week, but never mind, only young once! :D

Marital or Martial? ;)

Well, I spend most of my spare time in the creative zone. OK, I've never actually finished anything, but I'm keeping at it until I do. I've tried my hand at writing, composing, graphic design and my main focus is game design (puzzle / casual PC games).

My little boy is taking up most of my time at the moment though. He'll be 3 in January. :)

It seems like we all like a bit of the same......

I play pool to a good standard - top divisions in 2 seperate leagues and in a singles league littered with county players. I love my old skool dance tunes along with old hardcore and I can't be doing the shite which is released these days. Films are a passion of mine too and I'm quite proud of collection although I must make the transition to Blu-Ray lol. My favourite movie of all time is Leon and I'd say if I had favourite actor it would have to Denzel Washington.

Online poker takes up a fair few hours but more than anything I chillout by playing on the 360. Halo Reach is out today :D but the missus is picking it up for me whilst she is out :( .

And if I'm not doing any of the above I'm usually either sleeping, eating or running around after my 2 little monsters.
