new/old car

Post by trayhop123 »

just bought an 04 plate bag of shit suzuki alto ,,small titchy totchy black , cramped seating , cheap tat interior tacky plastics , nowt stylish , basic model,,,,,,,,,,,, but its not all bad news ,,,,,,,

1 owner , with only 20k on clock (in 6 years ? lol), full electrics central locking etc , but small engine for slotting , paid £1500 for it,,,,,,,,,,,,, the way i look at it , even in a year or so if i decide to sell it (even with added slotters mileage ) im getting a grand back all day long ,,,,,,,, people want small 4 door cars ,,,,,,,,, so its only a £500 gamble/investment . perfect for slotting .

can put the streetka on ebay now ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

based on 5full days out will defo be saving a ton a week on fuel.

besides cars are not my passion , otherwise i would be keeping it,,,,

If you're ever wanting to sell a car...sooner the better!
It's an exponential downturn in the value....almost.t..Say, a direct reflection in the Y axis of the normal exponential graph.

I managed to completely totally and utterly destroy the clutch on my 5 last week, my own fault really, tweaking it so its got more grunt than it should have, plus fitting stickytyres so it grips like its on rails and whats the first bit thats gonna break!? Exactly, plus sideways fun on wet roundabouts maybe didnt help it either. :o ops:

So, thats now residing over the other side of my yard under a sheet and i will fix it when i get time.

So i went back to an old vauxhall again, '93 astra, only done 80k miles from new, dealership serviced all its life, a real little minter, apart from one slightly rusted rear wheelarch the thing literally looks like a new car!

Its a 1.4, so not that quick, plus its the single point injection one, which are reaallllyyyy slow compared to the multi point injection ones from '95 onwards.

I could convert it to MPI but i have done it before and is a right git, you have to pretty much re wire half the wiring loom of the car to take the ECU to run the injection, and get the right ECU to match it, and feck about with sensors, and therefore the immobiliser side of it too, the mechanical bit such as ripping MPI head and inlet manifold off and swapping it is a doddle, but its the electrics side i cant be doing with, a proper ball ache!

And so, for that reason i instead plan to go find a pre '92 mk3 (which came without a catalytic convertor) grab the front pipe off that, then find a nova 1.4 sr, rob the inlet manifold off that, then find a 1.6 carb off a cavalier or summat, fit it all, carbed and ce-catted, and then it should go like fuck!

I really am not a fan of injection full stop really, its all pretty much all hard coded for economy at the sacrifice of getting more grunt out of an engine, apart from ECU remaps, which are dear as fuck, i am a lot more at home with carbs, set em up just as you want.

I will however leave all the original single point injection wiring intact so that i can swap it back over for mot, its only exhaust downpipes and then inlet manifold and carb in one lump to swap back, easy peasy.
