Anyone here old enough to remember the C64? The c64 was king when it appeared in the 80s and even though the graphics were cool for its time it was however the sound chip for me that was the secret for its success.
here is a link i have found that shows of its power from them bygone days.

Give this one a try as well:
Lemon 64 It has a nice concise games section with 'instant' reviews alongside. Great stuff...!
I agree, the SID chip was a fascinating piece of hardware. I actually purchased a recently produced synth that utilises one of these at it's core.
Sid Station Great fun recreating some of those soaring, flanging (*cough*) sounds!
I loved my C64, so many memories!
Some of my favourite music pieces were from (game names):
-Supremacy
-Cybernoid I & II
-Last Ninja Remix
-Myth
-Draconus
-Zybex
-Ocean (The loading screens)
There were many many more though, definitely...
For gameplay, my favourite games were:
-Mercenary "Escape from Targ"
-Last Ninja I & II
-Head Over Heels
-Spellbound
Hours of fun.

I remeber the Commodore64, even the Sinclair ZX Spectrums, BBC Micros. My first one was an Amiga A500 before a 80286. Also had the Atari 2600 which make me really old.

I had to settle for the Amstrad CPC 464, my parents were part of the "Computers damage your telly" crowd so had to put up with the awful green screen monitor.
My mate had a C64 so I was always round his. A truly great computer. Microprose soccer on a wet pitch was pure entertainment.

My first computer was a C64 light fantastic, New Zealand story, Monty On The Run, Dizzy were great games for the time, i soon moved onto a Sega Megadrive when i saved enough babysitting money, i also remember paying 50 sheets for Sonic 2 which was an absolute fortune to me at 12/13.

fucking insane really, they're still £50 a game now for new consoles..
either they're cheaper than they should be now, or were more expensive than they should have been then.. either way we've either been ripped off in the past, or we're getting ripped off now..
software piracy was the best invention ever...

played wolfenstein on ps nowt earlier though.
i had access to a sinclair zx80 and an 81 at school lol ,as well as the bbc micro .
1k chess on the zx81 is legendary ,dunno how they got it into 1024 bytes but fair play to them.
first system i had was the mattel intellivision ,a huge step up in class from the old atari console in both spec and price ,you can get a ps3 cheaper now than my old dear paid for it back in the early 80's
my first micro was the vic20 ,3.5k ram standard (i had a 16 ram pack too lmao) ,all sound chip and nowt else really lmao .at least you could get cartridge games that were ok ish. i used to like the llamasoft games like gridrunner and the defender clone "attack of the mutant llamas"
never had the c64

but bought a spectrum from saving my paper round money . i had quite a nice little cottage industry going at one point from copying games with "the key" and "clone it" and selling compilations of all the top speccy titles at school lol.
my favs on the speccy were all the ultimate games and daley thompsons decathalon lol(my membrane keypad took a total hammering

)......oh and chucky egg of course.

lugsy the pirate lol
but seriously back in those days , we all dabbled and owned a few copies ,,,,,,,,, you had to have a few , ............... i could (from slotting the rat races etc, and pocket money) probably afford 1 or 2 £1.99 mastertronic/firebird games every week or 2 and built up a sizeable collection ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, but the top releases could cost £8.99/£9.99 ,,,,,, and thus were out of reach ,,,,,,, without saving up , or having a good week in the arcades lol .
copies were part of school boy growing up history :P
