... this is the annual cost of the car insurance cover that I had to buy yesterday and that's including the 10% discount for paying it all within the first month. I was forced to make the decision in order to get the car back from London.

I am looking at cancelling the policy and finding an alternative. It's the first time I've had to insure myself and was expecting about 1k - I was punch drunk in the car on the way back. Who's the best out there?

Adrian flux are very good, when i had my rover i was paying over £800 for third party fire and theft with the co-op, so i changed to adrian flux and for the same cover it cost me £327.

For TPF&T on the roadster its £400 exactly for a year, plus if you use the direct debit and do it in monthly installments its split so you only pay 10 months of the year as well, so although you pay for the whole years cover, its all paid over a 10 month term so you get december and january without having to pay, which is bloody handy over christmas!

They also specialise in young drivers, convicted drivers, imported cars and modified cars, which is also a bonus, depending your age and what car it is.

It is high impossible when your a youngster and want any kind of half decent car to the point of in some cases, the cover tpf&t costing lots more than the value of the car, in my case nearly 3 times more!

When i first passed my test at 18 i bought a slightly tatty 1989 ford escort 1.3 5 door off a mate for £400, and they wanted just shy of £1700 to insure me, fuck that, i just wouldn't have been able to afford it, so we put the car in my mums name and i used it evenings and weekends and she had it in the daytime, cost her £700 with me as a named driver and we split the cost down the middle which was OK back then but i hear it is technically classed as fraud now.

About the same time as that a mate passed his test and bought a '88 escort XR3i, which cost him........ £3,600!! fucking nuts.

Then i got banned for dangerous driving in 2002 when i was 20, long story short, i was handbrake turning around in a car park and the CCTV camera caught it all on tape, 12 months ban, £250 fine, and i had to retake my test, which by the time the ban ended, included the new hazard perception screen test so i had to do three parts all over again.

So i bought a 1.1 rover metro 4 door, a total pile of shite, and to insure that cost me £1200.

So now, 8 years after my ban, i am finally paying roughly what is the going rate without the previous ban bumping the price up.
