I'll go for:

1. Laurel and Hardy

Arguably the best comedic duo of all time. I particularly enjoy the 'fourth-wall break' that Ollie so often does when Stan is in his own world - by looking 'under his eyebrows' at the camera, often in disdain! My favourite moment has to be in Sons of the Desert - you'd never think that over 5 minutes of silence watching a guy trying to eat an 'imitation' apple could be so funny! Also, one of the wierdest lines you are ever likely to here: "Pardon me a moment, my ear is full of milk!" whilst on the phone. ;)

2. Dads' Army

Another classic that I was pretty much bought up on. The relationship between Mainwaring and Wilson is so well played out. The casual little digs that Wilson always has at his self-assigned superior are brilliant! Joe Walker was also my favourite character, but sadly the actor who played him (Jimmy Beck) died halfway through one of the middle series. :(

3. Only Fools

Well, what needs to be said? :) Del has to be the most secretly aspired-after character going. They should've ended the series though when they walked off into the sunset as millionaires. It went a bit loose after that (although Cassandra suddenly became quite hot!)

4. Fawlty Towers

"The game's up! Up there, a bit of game pie got stuck..."

"What would you like your breakfast tray made out of, teak, mahogony?"

"I'll have a Waldorf salad with lashings of hot screwdriver!"

"I mean what's a Waldorf? A Walnut that's gone off?!"

5. Steptoe and Son

My dad absolutely loved this and if I recall, it used to be on TV Saturday lunchtimes. My Mum would 'go sit up the other end' though and eat her lunch as Albert 'put her off her food!' :)
"And do you ever contradict yourself, Minister?" "Well, yes and no..."

difficult to sum up this one , as comedy can be expressed in so many ways , from the classic sit coms already mentioned to the panel shows and of course comedy in its purest form , the standup performance , personal faves have to include billy connerly eddie murphy , chris rock ,dave allen , joan rivers , al murry , jackie mason , robin williams and many more , everyone will have there favourite , and we could argue all week ,

but for me and in my humble opinion there is one name not mentioned yet , that in the world of comedy has no equals , never has there been a talent like his before or since , a true genius and master of his trade,........ im talking of course of peter sellers as inspector clouseu in the pink panther films , untouchable ,

now i know this is just my opinion , and everyone is entitled to argue back , but before you do buy the box set on dvd ,,,,,,,,,,,, watch em ,,,,,, twice ,,,,,,, three times ,,,,, then just try to argue back .

go on just try .

does your dog bite?
no
agrghhgr
i thought u said your dog doesn't bite
that is not my dog.

genius .

Not sure about my top five but my top two would be

Scrubs &
Monty Pythons flying circus

also not a comedy but a programme that always has parts that makes me laugh more than anything else at the moment is top gear....?

I think The Royle Family would be worth a place in my top 10, i keep thinking of funny programmes, you forget how many great shows have been made over the years.

Yep Harry Hill is one of those comedians that when he hits form, he's really funny. Granted he can get a little too bizarre at times. I was looking at some of his stuff on Amazon today and saw an old VHS tape available for £25! Absolutely rave reviews. Can't be bothered to sort out the link, just go to VHS and type Harry Hill. It's a rare earlier live performance.
Anyhow, he is one of the few comedians who has made me genuinely laugh.
