I've heard it is horrifically hot, if you can eat the lot you don't have to pay. Rumour has it that it's never been done!
Them Geordies are flipping mental, up there they do Madras then Vindaloo then something called a Tindaloo then a mega hot phal.

I tried the Tindaloo cos i like a hot curry but could only eat half of it, it was unbelievable!!

People who eat a phal must be seriously hard!!

I think that the heat intensity varies dramatically from restaurant to restaurant, I think there needs to be some EU guidelines drawn up to get a bit of consistency here!

The chicken phal that I had was not as hot as some of the vindaloos I've eaten, a couple of them were genuinely painful to eat. My nose was streaming, my heart and head felt like they were going to explode and I was subject to a near-hysterical giggling fit, much to the great amusement of the waiters, all of whom readily admit that they wouldn't dream of eating anything like that!

The sense of achievement after mopping up the last few drops of molten lava was enormous though, I'm sure my folks would have been so proud if they could have seen me, a dribbling drunken wreck!

A very nice sentiment there Texas Pete :P

Now i like all spicy food as much as the next guy, but having it that hot doesn't make sense to me. You can't enjoy the meal as all you can taste is burning, and you are in so much discomfort. Each to their own though

:)

i think it is important to say grace before you have a curry:

our Father Which art in Heaven,
aloo be thy naan,
thy king prawn come,
with papadam...

really, i'm such a one.
nobody ever wins on those things.
