Fave stuff i'm listening to at the moment is

Richard ashcroft... The new album is a work of art

Royksopp, hideously underrated, great stuff really... the best chillout music available if you ask me

Also liking Motion city soundtrack, saves the day, alkaline trio, not to most people's taste, but hey.

Editors, they're pretty good, allthough some of the album is crap, but worthy of a mention.

Moby's latest album is ok, and il always love his older stuff.

Things i don't particularly like...

Arctic monkeys.. good, but just too overhyped

Trivium.. same applies really, people making a fuss over not a great deal

Orson.. just crap.

Kaiser chiefs... see Orson

Hard fi.. see kaiser chiefs

yeah ill listen to pretty much anyhting that is rock genre..nothing else though

very single minded haha.

saw dylan back in novemeber at the NEC..was pretty good but i think hes fading a bit in his old age..:P
couldnt even make out ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER lol

like a rolling stone was orgasmic tho :P
1st album was " curb" nothing special tbh
2nd "the state" had there break through single " leader of men"
3rd " silver side up" how you remind me, too bad and never again, they are the 3 that got them fame
4th album " the long road" 1st track to be realised " someday"
5th "all the right reasons" differnt from nickelback probaly my favourite with Chad kroeger doing lyrics with ZZ top!

Cheers

Best:

Pet Shop Boys (despite Little Britain fools in their new vid :o ops: )
Todd Edwards (hoppity-skippity sample choppage)
Prodigy
Rick Wakeman (super noodles)
De La Soul (inventive, amusing)

Over-rated:

Orson (*cringe*)
retro-styled music of the now eg. Franz Ferdinand (parasites)
David Bowie (self-obsessed)
David Gray (music for badminton players)
music in general (not as good as Word Up  )

Very good but not so well known:

Polvo (discordant US indie)
Fanu (Finnish drum and bass)
Nut (delicate UK indie)
Dragonforce (ultra-fast cock rock)
Smut Peddlers (XXX US hip-hop)

that's the thing about music; everyone has an opinion.
personally i am into paganini at the moment and k's choice, also badly drawn boy. (yes i know i am behind the times) haven't even heard of most of these bands.
nobody ever wins on those things.

I like 'Not An Addict' by them. Not very well known in the UK, are they?

they are not huge here but there are a few pockets of adherents here and there. 20000 seconds is a brilliant track. veering wildly off topic, since you are gracing the lounge Bob, fancy making this a WU thread? WG won't care he's too busy bellyaching in the other forum.

Current faves:

Strokes - latest album is superb, subject to a lot of unfair criticism IMO
Kings of Leon (obviously)
Bloc Party - excellent debut album, amazing drummer.
Graham Coxon - again a very agreeable current album
Beck - Guero remix album provided some recent interest, Clap Hands is a slammer....

Non Faves / Overrated

Arctic Monkeys - not bad, but not worthy of their status. Only in the list as they are HUGELY overrated
The Streets - actually make me cringe now, can't see what the fuss is about. Lyrics about fry-ups and pubs don't make you a 'poet' (Grrrrr.....)
Kaiser Chiefs - Silly sing-a-long songs for simple folk.
Babyshambles - Just crap really. Lead singer seems to think they're good though, that's what crack can do to a person.
K T Tungstell - So gratingly cheerful and upbeat it makes me want to attack a complete stranger to redress the balance. The musical equivalent of Dawsons Creek.

Arctic Monkey's highlight the power of the internet - much like Blair Witch Project all the promo was done online and hyped up by mates and groupies. hype snowballed they got a deal and then the record label fanne the hype. It worked biggest selling album ever and tour sold out in minutes (record label rubbing hands together).

In reality it was a good album but not a great album - 45 minutes on songs that all sound the same, but a different sound to everything else.

Certain Romance is the best track.

My favs are

Best of James Brown (cant beat a bit of funk)
Plump DJ's - a plump night out (breakbeat legends)
Streets new album 'Hardest way to make an easy living'
Primal Scream - Screamadelica
Primal Scream - Xtrnmntr
Cyprus Hill - BlackSunday
Dirty pretty things are quality aswell

my hates are

Futureheads

I would put 2 of the bands in my faves and most overated at the moment.

Artics & Kaisers, both are overated but i also like them :)

Oasis would top my list for best band though.

Other overated acts include Streets, Embrace & someone else i cant remember??
