Degrees of sadness

Post by Cardinal Sin »

I don't think that anyone can deny that gambling on fruit machines or quiz machines is perceived as "sad".

So, given a scale of:

0 = have never played a gambling machine
10 = lay awake at night dreaming of a red TOT

Where would you be???

Myself, I used to be a 10. Now I'm around a 6.5 :P

Used to be a 10 back in '98 / '99, moved down to around a 7 from '04 onwards, but would now say (within the last 3-4 weeks) am down to a sitting-on-the-fence 5. A lot more financial commitments now with the new house, 'instant' family, new car, etc. So have even toned it down from my usual 1-2 nights a week to maybe once every other week.

Still enjoy coming here though and chatting about it all... ;)

Post 2000 machines are like Frankenstein's monster ie bits and pieces thrown together. Now on S16's you just press a button and hope for the best. No skill, no excitement, no anything really. The days when you knew when machines would pay are mostly gone. 3 out of 10 for me. Much prefer poker or backgammon.

On that scale, presumably a 5 is someone who plays on them moderately when he finds himself in the company of an AWP/SWP, but who NEVER necessarily intends to seek one to play on?

Sorry if I've confused people with that statement, and it might be a poor example anyway......

I'd say I'm a six

I'd probably stick myself up in the higher echelons of sadness - though i don't sit awake thinking of fruits at night! Now i work full time i only get time to play once a week anyway. Imminently going back up to 3 times a week though, sacking off one of my jobs at easter!

Yeah, I'm probably an 8 as well - given that I'm married, have a mortgage, decent job etc., that's still probably too high. But old habits die hard.
