Did he build a computer that wrote fiction?

I'm mainly grabbing at potential clues in your Q's wordage but I do remember reading* a while back about someone doing or trying to do such a thing.

*Although I may have read said article in a dream or a drunken stupour and have completely fabricated it.

The subject has a chip implanted under his skin. The machines have a similar chip in them and when the guy approaches the machine, it switches itself off!
