Which island was annexed by the UK on 18th September 1955, signalling the final territorial expansion of the British Empire?

Had to look that particular island up. Still it's sated my addiction for islands for a while.

Smaller than Chiswick Eyot in area, but probably not in height. And like Chiswick Eyot, it is usually uninhabited

Yes indeed.

Quote from Wikipedia...

Tom McLean is a former SAS member and survival expert who lived on the island of Rockall from 26 May to 4 July 1985 to affirm Britain's claim to the island

It is 150 miles west of the next uninhabited island (St Kilda).

Now I like my islands, but I would baulk at the idea of living there for any length of time, let alone over a month!

Anyway, over to you Weyland.

Okay... in keeping with small places to live: In England, what is the main distinction between a hamlet and a village? And no cigar-related jokes please. ;)

a hamlet is a village without a church, so basically just a bunch of houses, whereas a village has a church.
