ooh, i know this one, he was going to be puckman but some crazy nippon spoiled our fun when he realised you can scratch out the right curve of the P.

Correct!
There are still cabs out there that have the original "Puckman" sign. Rare though.

No. And they don't use sex either.

(Although it does remind me of some Pacific Island where American sailors discovered that the native laydeez would take nails in exchange for sex. Next thing you know, the sailors had scuppered their own ship in an attempt to get their hole, and they were forever stranded there).

That story may well be apocryphal btw!
