It's an UP

The name thatis given by film companies on the credits of a film which has been disowned by the director, usually because the film is awful or the director is upset by which cuts have been made to his creation. There are now strict criteria by which an "Alan Smithee Production" can be applied.

Can we get a few stabs at answering Harry, before you provide the answer???

There might be some bright sparks out there who can answer your questions, even if UP and I can't!

And "Alan Smithee", is an anagram of "The alias men"....

not that often. they have apparently given up replacing it if it is stolen and only change it periodally because of graffs.

okely dokely. thank you UP...

The word "widdershins" or "withershins" has fallen out of use these days, but what does it mean?? (i actually read it in a George Orwell book the other day, so it isn't that old).

NOthing like that! I think it fell into obscurity cos there is another word which better describes Widdershins.

just breifly going back to UP's question about abbey road, think i'm right in saying the penny lane sign is now painted onto the wall as the council could not keep up with the need for replacement signs

Yup, or it was a few years back. I actually rented a flat on Penny Lane for about nine months in 1996. Bonuses of living there include being asked to take random tourist's photos every bllody time I came home from work. I got very very very sick of the Beatles... ;)

Incidentally, "Widdershins" means anticlockwise, doesn't it?
