Yep it was the Boer War - not sure that there was a particular resonance with Liverpool more that it was jus a very well received victory at the time vis a vis Britain's imperial ambitions.

The answer seems to be a little ambiguous. The answer I have is Westlife with 14, but if you add up Cliff Richard's solo, with the Shadows and duet with Mariah Carey he also has 14. I'll let Alex post a question as he mentioned Cliff.
