Damn, forgot ice hockey. How about trampolining? It's sort of net-like...

that's the three easier ones, one of the others is a semantic thing i.e. a different kind of net to latticework. in fact i can't remember the fourth just now but it will come to me or one of you soon enough.

Ah, hang on. Isn't there a version of tennis that isn't played with a ball? For places like ships where a ball could get lost easily. Deck Tennis I think it's called.

ooh a flurry,

to clarify: fishing, field sports (discus&hammer included here), ice hockey and badminton are right so far.

the opther one's net is not the sdame type of net as the rest so a bit of a trick Q.

feel free to have multiple guesses at it.

For some reason I'm thinking an alpine event, perhaps skiing (Where they have those "net" like crash barriers)

nope not alpine. as for Weyland's guess that may well be right but i've never heard of it, if you mean real tennis, there is no net in that but i'm not familiar with deck tennis (sorry)
this is a mainstream sport
(but i have a meeting at 5.30 so will give it to Weyland if nobody gets it before then.)

okay fair enough, let's give it to Weyland.
the one i was thinking of is boxing; the dollybirds who carry the numbers between rounds are known as nets.

That is obscure... how did a girl come to be known as a net? ;)

Anyway, speaking of obscure, this lunchtime I dug out the old classic FPS Quake for a bit of a refreshing blast, as shooters these days are getting too complicated.

What I want to know is: What is the current fastest time recorded for finishing the game?

Don't know, but Quake is one of the top 5 video games EVER. So atmospheric for it's time.

Probably something as ridiculous as 8 minutes, usuing all kind of shady jumps and level skipping techniques

(sorry for delay, rubbish train home followed by moronic pizza restaurent)

Gran is pretty close, within a few minutes. However, all the levels (apart from the secret ones) were played. So you need to get a bit closer yet... ;)
