Fruit Machine Chat

spotted one of these today in the side room of a restaurant in amongst a couple fruits and old videos.

standalone hangman by jpm in absolute immaculate condition aswell ,not a single fag ever been laid across the tops of the buttons lol.

dunno if it was ever any good,but it's deffo not covered

One of those popped up randomly last year in a pub I know in Preston which has always had an interesting selection of machines - they also had a standalone Coronation Street machine at some point quite recently as well.

The interesting thing about Hangman is surely how enduring it has been (albeit in three very similar incarnations) - it is still available on most if not all ItBoxes and presumably on all Opens as well. Is there any other game that can claim to have been continuously available for as long as that?

I don't think so, unless you count the WWTBAM franchise in its various incarnations, and even then I fancy the original Hangman pre-dates the original WWTBAM. Incidentally I've still got an original WWTBAM on a museum-piece cabinet near my work, and saw the same cabinet out of London at the weekend!

Does anyone still play Hangman on the ItBoxes? I liked the standalone incarnation but have never played it much since then.

It does predate Millionaire, by about a year. It was a decent machine, but there was better stuff around at the time.

My best find ever: A fruit machine quiz machine in a cafe in Mevagissy in Cornwall next to the toilets 2 summers ago. Hadn't seen one for the best part of 20 years. In very good condition and paid out some old style larger 50p pieces when it had run out of £1.00 coins

Hehe, wow - I particularly like the detail about the larger 50ps!. I found a 'Fruit Pursuit' in an arcade on the Norfolk coast a few years back, but I think that's of rather more recent vintage!
