Threads being deleted

Post by Nil Satis »

Before I say anything else, can I just make it clear that I am not having a strop here? :)

I just wanted to get some of the ground rules established about why whole threads, or individual posts, might get deleted. This morning I asked a couple of genuine questions in relation to what I assume is a known issue about a weakness in a quiz-related game - a known issue in the sense that I'm sure a lot of the posters on here know about it in either general or specific terms, and certainly known to the machine companies, hence the rapid removal of said game from most cabinets. I've called it a weakness as it's not really even a bug in the sense I understand that term.

The whole thread has subsequently been deleted and I just wondered why that was. Was the existing content, i.e. a general discussion of a known issue without referring to the specific details of how you actually exploit that weakness, sufficient to cause the thread to be deleted? Or did the conversation subsequently spread into dodgier ground? Or does someone simply want to protect their 'secret' knowledge in order to prolong their ability to exploit this weakness at the few remaining sites?

As I said, this isn't in relation to a game of any personal interest of mine - I have better ways to try to win cash than doing something so mind-numbingly repetitive - but I'd have to say that without being able to discuss such issues on here, this forum would start to seem more than a little pointless. There are only so many times people can talk about a certain word-related game, after all...

Thinking about it, at least one poster on here would probably even disagree with that!

I'm guessing it may have been my reply that got it deleted,

FAO Mods, it would be courtious/respectful of you to notify somebody when you delete something of theirs with the reason(Unless it's just a blatant idiot member posting something ridiculous). If I knew wether it was my fault or not then I'd know for future reference but just straight out deleting leaving Me & Nil satis non the wiser as to who and why it's gone has now caused yet another thread.

As far as I knew what I posted was common knowledge, sorry if what I posted was sensitive.

Hi guys - I'm not sure which of us deleted the thread in question (I've not been around much today and don't think I even saw it) but generally the done thing is to at least advise the opening poster to the fact that their thread will be / has been deleted.

Apologies on behalf of the Mods if this wasn't the case in this instance... ;)

As it seems most of us missed reading the thread, could someone post the gist, if not all, of it so that:

a) We know what not to say
b) We know what people are saying
c) We know what the hell you lot are talking about

On the other hand, if it is about word up, or word soup, then forget it......
Oh, I'm so scared.

not me guv, although i did read it and wanted to post a reply (i was impressed by the simple ingenuity of marking a coin and using it to log throughput), but was vulgarly busy at work today.

like NS, i have no personal knowledge of how to exploit that particular game; it is also not a title which interests me. however, i can understand that free money has some appeal. the plot thickens, but, having said that, if a post was made out of the spirit of common sense, it has to go.
nobody ever wins on those things.

Ah so somebody else posted on the thread after me then, the super duper top secret coin marking method could well have been the straw that broke the donkey's threads back

i hold my hands up :o ops:

i do usually p.m people to explain but was running a tad late for work .

the thread was deleted on recommendation from the final poster and the game is still being widely covered ,i decided to oblige and removed it to protect the interests of members involved and stop further questions on the public board.

apologies all round to those offended by the deletion .

i did'nt make the decision lightly .

Fair do's, don't let it happen again :P
Only reason I posted what I did was because there's been plenty of natter over several threads about this, & I was told by an engineer last night that it should no longer be on any fatspanner units, so it's not really topsecret anymore.

I understand that people still have workers but thats just down to lazy leisure companys. What got posted shouldn't effect them.

But then I didn't see what got put after so I could be talking out of my arse :D

it's not what anybody posted that swayed my arm to delete,it's what probably would have transpired........... i.e ,a low post count member spurting off the method in a bragging post further down the thread.

maybe there is a conflict of interests, with the moderators wanting to keep an advantage-----
I'd be interested who the moderators are
is there a list of moderators real names and what they actually do as an occupation?
Are any of them pro quiz machine players?
Are any of them in the legal profession,so that they can delete offensive or criminally inducing posts?
Are they elected?

It seems strange that I'm probably the most open person on the forum--as far as I know I'm the only person with my real name, age known, occupation known and location(London & Glasgow dont count too big!),recent tv appearance excepted!

Its time for some transparency.

Ok, Mr Lugsy fair enough - but my original posting certainly did not give anything that isn't common knowledge anyway.
I was offering a site that is no good to me as i will not be revisiting it.
Why don't you just delete sensitive postings rather than the entire thread?

I appreciate that you might usually PM the starting poster..........
But not in this case - is this because you don't know me personally?

I don't believe i have caused much offense; or revealed any major info in any of my postings - if i have - please let me know.
