System failure on paragons

What an odd coincidence - twice now in the last 24 hours I've had that system failure board come up on screen. Both times I'd won decent (ish) amounts - £13 and £8. Now that there's the disclaimer a the bottom of the screen I've just walked away very annoyed. Has anyone tried to claim back lost money?
It's interesting that it doesn't say what the amount was, unlike on the itbox. Is it even legal?
Much more of this and there'll be no point playing at all. :x

In addition to cool's suggestion: play a low-priority game which you're likely to win small cash on, then collect, just to test the payout before getting nivolved in playing more important games.

Don't expect to get ious, in my experience you won't. Completely unacceptable behaviour from Games Warehouse, but what can you do?

Are you somehow implying that GW are somehow making this error occur in order to swindle the more sucessful player/seasoned player out of his takings?
Surely this would be highly illegal? and not to mention dishonest..

I'm not implying that. However it is the net effect of the error, as you have no tangible proof that you have won.

Does this error message look remotely genuine?

I'm picturing a situation where GW have put it in as a last line of defence against losses. For a genuine software problem to prevent the unit paying out, you'd expect a bit of a delay and a reasonable effort on the part of the hopper to pay you out.

I sense a bit of foul play on the part of GW.

With this particular error message, it comes up straight away. It's not like an iou which comes up after it's run out of coins. It occurs to me that it might be the same error as one which occurred from time to time on a preceding Paragon issue (on attempting to collect, the machine would appear to crash and the bank would be wiped) and all they have done is eliminate the crash and replace it with the system error message.

It's probably their way of making up for huge losses on their previous mistakes...

if you was just a casual player and you managed to win a few quid on something and the unit then wiped your bank and displayed that message would you be likely to play it again?

i think not, i think gw will alienate alot of casuals if this continues for long.

like nixxy ,i smell a rat here.

Heh, I can see why you might think that..

However, perhaps you're being a little cynical. To clarify my previous comment, there was a similar payout problem on the version immediately prior to the one with the "empty me" games on it. I just think they have changed the way in which the problem manifests itself (by "correcting" the crash and putting the dodgy disclaimer on the screen, but still not showing the iou).

It's completely unacceptable, of course. It's the only current terminal which doesn't give visual proof of what you're owed.

Well yesterday the exact same thing happened on a gamesnet - £6 on Bully - me in shock. Went to collect and the machine packed up.
BUT this type of machine was kind enough to display how much I should have been paid and even the time of the mishap.
I'm sure this went someway towards the barman coughing up straight away with apologies as he rang the operatives.
That Paragon disclaimer is as close to theft as you can get. Mind you - if people are easily getting £58 a pop then the machines hardly going to last long. (Not that I'm jealous... )
