critical service

Post by Blackcurrantsoda »

Got 5 cd rom updates 4.0.04 from games warehouse friday... The update clears bank if power is lost. A message appears above the bank 'malfunction voids all pays and plays' or something to those words... After 3 on offs the machine also alarms.

Yes, I saw one of those on Friday night, but it wasn't taking any coins or notes so I couldn't play it. As you describe it, the "bank lost if power lost" aspect seems unfair - why should the player lose out if the venue suffers a power-cut? What's to stop unscrupulous landlords from turning power off while a player is playing? I guess this reinforces the motto that one should collect one's bank regularly while playing. I presume this has been introduced in response to recent exploitation of Paragons?

i'm not sure how legal that update is, from what i recall, the new technical standards incorporated into the new gaming act state that players banks and credit must be protected against power loss.

perhaps the manufacturer should be politely informed.

On further inspection the message is displayed below the bank.. The new update also makes casino royale quite due, giving £4 and 2 numbers from start. So if you see one that has just been updated it's going to be ready. For some reason Doctor Who has been reduced to 50p per paly in favour of the previous £1, not sure why? Also quids for grids has been removed, think these were being done but not as widespread as CR, CS, and PTP.

Quite right there,

but the new standards only apply to gaming machines aWP's NOT SWPs'

Well, for the time being at least

I think the swp manu's are taking the piss too much now and will soon end up getting regulated, then they'll all cry foul but wont have anyone to blame but themselves.

Doctor Who looked a tremendous rip-off at £1 a play, given its difficulty, so I'm not surprised they're trying to make it more welcoming. RIP Quids For Grids - I'd always enjoyed this (although certainly wasn't "doing" them"!) and it's a sad loss after a pretty long stint on the Paragons.

Quids for grids always seemed okay for the casual(me) quizzer, always made a few pound on it. As for CR being ready on the update, will be worth looking out for!

Its quite legal im afraid as swp's do not come under any gaming act because it is not classed as a gambling machine.

i think reclassification is imminent ,what with some of the games these days being more like an awp than a quiz/word game.

If reclassification were to come it would be the end of swp machines.
Isnt there a duty to pay if it is classed a gambling machine?
seeing as these machine take a hell of a lot less than awp's i cant see them surviving :(
