i played one of these and was doing quite a bit in it on 50p play, maybe twenty pound. then tried to collect the money but the screen froze.. i asked the bar lady to turn it off which she done but the bank had disappeared...she gave me the 11 back and i carried on playing..about 20 later it offered me 5 balls on normal play and 40 for hitting a number.... i missed then went back to 6 prize.. missed again and then the 5 balls came back on for 40 again...missed but gave me mystery for 5 or 6 which i collected...6 for a ball came up with 5 balls i hit one but lost the gamble on purpose.. then next spin offered 40 again and it hit...got the 40... next credit still giving 5 balls but only 6 prizes .. hit one but lost again on purpose.. next credit 5 balls for 40 prize.. hit it and took 86 out of it... girl behind the bar wasnt impressed

I've once played Casino Royale on a stand-alone unit in a kebab shop, and once on a quizzer (I think it was a Paragon .. not sure though).

As a standalone, it DOES give you a feeling of being in some sort of control over where the ball stops - but on the video screen I felt as though I was at the mercy of the machine and decided not to waste any more money.

The standalone game has a Start button which depresses a full inch when you press it; the thing that throws you off balance is the whole Fast/Medium/Slow setting which constantly changes. The degree of force with which you press the button determines the speed of the ball on the roulette wheel. On the quiz-machine version I think it's simply a golf-style force-o-meter.

As a game, it's bizarre - and rather pointless. It seems to make money on the basis of the player having some in-built urge to see what happens when you've lit up all the positions. I managed to pot it three times in about 45 mins, which I think cost me in the region of £95/£100. I was mesmerised by that point.

I was intending to walk after the second pot but in playing off the remaining credits, the Mystery gave me 'Super Game Next', which lit up four positions on the board and the JP leapt from £6 to £40, making it pretty obvious what it was about to do, and it duly did it.

A very odd game and not one I'll miss playing.
