I can't work out the thing with the Groups though, is it if you eliminate every group you get bonus points?

If you get all the teams in one group it counts the same as scoring a penalty in the end-game. I think the best strategy is to always go for the small points until you get to the semi-final when you should go for the highest. There are some absolute pigs though like Korean goalkeepers which is pretty much impossible.
