spare change guv?
left my wallet at home today so i have £4.18 to drink with on my night off.
should be interesting, i've never gone out before on a shoestring. it'll be a choker if i crap out on the first two games.
with a bit of luck the SWP gods will be generous and pay for my booze for a while.
it is good to have a bit of pressure on the gaming and perversely i'm looking forward to seeing how it goes.

I'd completely disagree chaps - in my experience, starting with a small bank is the easiest way to ensure a bad result - unless you luck out with a big win on the first or second game, you'll be playing too cautiously trying to preserve your bank rather than taking the risks needed to maximise overall winnings. But anyway, needs must Isty, so good luck tonight.

thanks gents. rather than doing any work this afternoon, i've been planning my strategy. start off with a half and some guaranteed double your money things then move on to riskier bigger wins once i have a small kitty. it could all go wrong and i end up doing the wetherspoons crossword, weeping silently into a half of weak lager. :*(

Isn't a better strategy borrow £10 off a work-mate and pay it back tomorrow (without an SWP rate of return, naturellement)?Istenem wrote:thanks gents. rather than doing any work this afternoon, i've been planning my strategy. start off with a half and some guaranteed double your money things then move on to riskier bigger wins once i have a small kitty. it could all go wrong and i end up doing the wetherspoons crossword, weeping silently into a half of weak lager. :*(

Grecian's strategy is probably sensible. i'll borrow a purple one from petty cash and put it in a back pocket just in case. hopefully it won't get touched though. i'm not off to make a fortune, just to keep me in the pub. should be doable so long as there is not a bad start.

Think I reported a similar predicament on here a few months ago. Having gone out of the city for a job interview one evening couldnt find a cash point but had enough for a first pint and £1.50 change. Fortunately was on virgin scrabble turf which kicked me off to a flyer before getting stuck into Bully etc. Had a few pints and pockets jingled all the way home.
In fact took the job on the basis of the experience but since arriving in situ have found a much more barren landscape (albeit not too many Soupers around here by the looks of things)

bravo for 10k.
go us!
a little epilogue.
a combination of idiocy and misplaced bravado meant that my £4.18 only got three pints before i was out of cash. poor show i know.
first pub: i was there on saturday so only dribbles but a very good pint to set me on the way with £5.23.
second pub: some git was playing my banker game and collecting £1. meanwhile i sipped an average pint. eventually got on the machine with half a pint left. hit some decent 10-letter words but 1850 for a quid was never going to pay. recouped £6 on japseye. pocket had £6.09.
third pub: excellent pint and a good start on WU (not profitable but enjoyable). moved to japseye and manged to foul it up twice before getting to the endgame. so was banking on hitting 101 or leaving with one pound and nine pee. it made me hit the wire so we are worrying now.
didn't have enough to go next door so played it off on the silly games but i go to that pub once a week so very little joy.
and my wallet was not at home so lucky i still have the £20 for tomorrow.
but it was enjoyable to play on a budget even though i failed, it made me care what i was doing. hopefully i can make the twenty last with a bit more discipline and going to somewhere a bit different.

Many years ago I came back from a trip to Paris with a mate and we somehow ended up in the pub at St Catherine's Dock down to our last 50p of credit. Had that gone we would have both had to walk from there to our respective mainline stations for the journey home but I can still remember to this day the question that won us £10 to kick off a nice little afternoon of free cash, even if the actual game is lost in the mists of time: Which bank uses the symbol of the Black Horse?

Yes, I remember many many years ago (1988, or 1989?) going out with a friend with only £5 or so between us. First pub, £10 first game on a Supernudger.. Many hours later, rampantly drunk, pockets bulging, standing (just about) in front of a Suit Pursuit, attracting the attention of a punter who had spotted that even though walking appeared to be a considerable effort, we could still win on the machine. Fun times..Nil Satis wrote:Many years ago I came back from a trip to Paris with a mate and we somehow ended up in the pub at St Catherine's Dock down to our last 50p of credit.
