when's it due? some years I've noticed it change quite quickly when the students are back.
also, what would people like to see on it?
and what do you all think will be on it?

I bet lots of people are going to be disappointed when they click excitedly on this thread. It won't be for a while will it? 53's only been out a little while - I'd be surprised if 54 came that hot on its heels, even with the students back soon.

I'd like to see three or four substantive new quiz games make an appearance at the expense of the non-quiz (word / gambling / skill) games that seem to be proliferating (see e.g. issue 53). In the fairly probable category, it'd be nice to see Won in Sixty Seconds (and to a lesser extent Take It Or Leave It) which I've played at ItBox test sites. Would like to see revamped TOTP2, even though it's not a patch on the original TOTP2. In the less possible category it'd be welcome to see Give It A Whirl which I've found offers really quite good £5 chances on Fatboxes (and have seen on a GamesNet). And Carol Vorderman's Su Doku, of course, which would no doubt spark a turf race as members of this board tried to be the first to visit each ItBox site to play it. In the wholly unrealistic category Trivia for Dummies would be the game I'd most like to see appearing on an ItBox near me (assuming Mazooma have given up on the Big Match franchise!)

Wires - the answer is no, although I've only played two games of it. On the second of those, at the ItBox test site I mentioned, I was on for an £8 prize. I think I got through three of the True or False questions. I think five true or false questions is an achievable ask (even with random guessing it's a 1 in 32 chance but I guess most us have a much better True or False record than that) although I'd need to do a lot more playing to see whether this was the case.

I know it was a bit naughty naming the thread as I did, but I just wanted to get a bit of craic going...things have gone pretty quiet of late!

Finally had a go at Take it or Leave it and Won in 60 Seconds. My thoughts:

TIOLI: Gameplay a bit too slow for my liking. Liked the question bank which I think was reasonable. Didnt like the Booby prize thing that removed the precious extra life which for a game that is already difficult was an uneccessary additional feature. As regards the end game, got there twice in 4 games for £9.25 and £8.60 prizepots. On one occassion got down to two boxes left but not trusting the machine's sense of fair play or randomness did not attempt to guess the box and crapped out on the last question. Overall cannot see this capturing the public's imagination.

WISS: Fairly snappy and initially v easy to enter endgame whereon with addition of 30 seconds I got 2 in a row for 50p, 4 in a row to advance to £1 and then 7 in a row for £2 but then collected as running out of time.

Alas the £2 out seemed to set the machine back significantly with the initial T or F round being noticeably more difficult and the targets in the end game much harder (ie say 6 qs in a row for 50p with again noticeably harder questions)

Not going to get rich playing these or even cover 2 pints of bitter in a Wetherspoons !

i was trying to play that earlier (i suspect in the same boozer) but there was a drippy couple already on it. this was about 13.00 so i just played the other machine.
pretty sure it wasn't you.

i contented myself with a steak sandwich a the old bell which was delicious but the machine in there is one of the tightest in all of central london.
nobody ever wins on those things.

Ah presumably you just pipped me to wordsoup then.

re the Old Bell, both Grecian and ggdr are often in there and if working late I often drop in on my way to City Thameslink for a pint of TT landlord and a dabble. Not surprised it is tight but means it is a pleasant surprise when you actually get to play one of these in the sticks.

i drank some free soup from the machine which only accepts notes. think i was the first to get at it. but i was only there for ten minutes and didn't bother waiting for the other machine.

maybe we should synchronise watches next time. (i'm only round there once every couple of months)

re. the old bell, i know.
i played a game of guess who and it gave me really tricky Qs from the off and each time it was for a unique characteristic.

but as i said, the food was superb.

The Old Bell's a lovely boozer. The food is top notch and there's always a fair range of ales. The quizzer does suffer a bit from over-competitive play but one strength is that the barmaids down there play regularly. I tend to emerge with net winnings when I'm down there (probably on account of the barmaids' play) although usually not much. Some other local boozers really are the tightest of tight ships - upstairs at Ye Olde London, the Cockpit and more recently the Cock all come to mind. Hornby, how are you coping when the Dev. is being refurbished?! When does it re-open I wonder?

Dev was open yesterday

Same machine though and the refurb only amounted to a bit of polish and a lick of paint. Hadnt noticed it had been shut and had to ask John the landlord why the place felt different- he wasnt too chuffed.
