Anything with accented letters tends to get bummed.

also, and this is me being a pedant, it still says 'conference teams' even though it is called the blue square premier.
i never thought the following statement would be true:
the mighty Exeter City are top of the premier league

And so say all of us Grecians.
According to this morning's Guardian, Sky Sports have annoyed Blue Square by continuining to refer to it as 'The Conference' (apparently to spite Blue Square because Sky are annoyed that the television rights went to Setanta).

Being
really pedantic, surely you mean "and this is my being a pedant"? ;-)

strictly you are right. but if you take it as a clause on its own me being a pedant acts as a single noun so i am also right. but who cares? this is a moment in the sun.

Going back to the previous off-topic, why would a multi-squillion pound company be so pissed off at losing out on non-league football?

No idea, it is an odd story isn't it.

Same reason Hitler got pissed off when he lost at Monopoly - megalomania.
Mind, good job he wasn't playing Monopoly SWP. He'd have been really manic then.

It should be called the Conference. There's nothing to stop them calling it the Blue Square Premier Conference. The annoyance arises for football historians such as myself when it comes to describing the various tiers of league, and indeed non-league, football.
The Championship is a ridiculous name. It should be called Division 2 because that's what it is. Division 3 has since been called Division 2 and now League 1.
Any quiz machine question which begins, "in which division were X playing in the year ...." has turned from something I would have snaffled up like an aardvark to what is colloquially described on these boards as a 'stinker'.
What next - League 1 will be renamed 'The League Title' and the fourth tier will then be renamed 'League Division 1', which will be one tier above the Blue Square Premier Division.
Well done everyone on that. What a mess.

Taking this even further off-topic I'm not sure questions of the kind you refer to are always straightforward. There's plenty of examples of clubs playing in odd divisions - e.g. Grimsby's or Brentford's stints in (the old) Division I for example.
