new issue of itbox (42?)

Post by Istenem »

didn't have the time to properly play any of the new games but it had

:d: risk (tidy but uninspired board game crossover)
:c: the numbers game (lottery theme, clone of that old bingo game)
:s: give us a q (pretty much the same as ind:e version but very sluggish)
:h: pretty sure there was another unmemorable new game

any thoughts?

Was quite excited at the sight of Risk, but sadly its just another Q&A game. Not really anything to do with Risk.

What exactly did you expect it to be? The actual board game? That would be value for money wouldnt it at a boring 4 hours a play game!

Also, unknownperson, what does the (42?) stand for? Presumably the 42nd issue, but base on what? Tell me, tell me, tell me now!

There used to be a "Risk" type game made by Maygay.

It was pretty rubbish, and was a pretty tenuous link to the actual boardgame.

pimp is on paragon 2/3. i doubt the itbox could handle the slick graphics as it seems to struggle and clunk with things like golden showers and give us a q.

Yes, a lot of the hardware out there is getting to be a touch on the creaky side...

I used to find the old standalone Risk pretty lucrative but this is going back a good few years now - the very early 90s onwards. I haven't ever played the board game so don't know how similar or otherwise the machine version was but it played like a proper game in that when the money was on offer, it was definitely achievable. I expect the new one to be similar to all the other new/revised games (especially on the ITBox) - nice to play and good to look at but hopeless in terms of winning more than £1.

What is that other bingo game called that has been around until pretty recently - Powerball or something like that? - it's the one where you are given say 65 balls to go for, with 1 to 5 balls offered for each question. I soon lost interest when I realised that clearing all 65 balls, rather than giving some bonus prize as I'd hoped/expected, just meant you were forced to collect the couple of quid you'd already won!

(i think) that one was called rollerball, know exactly which game you mean though Mr Satis: the one with a bloke looking perplexed on the intro screen.

there is also a world cup themed game (clone of FC) with Q&A endgame on the new release. national tourney effort.
having played risk at lunchtime i was actually quite impressed, found it moreish which the numbers thing isn't.

For what's it's worth I think Risk ain't bad. I remember the old one (i think that was the last time I made anything on SWP :( ) It's got a reasonable progression in the Q's and I think I'm right in saying it can't give you the run-around (like cluedo, monopoly, ..)

One new game (too me anyways) I've seen knocking about is 'Brainteasers' is that what you meant pseudo? Not too impressed with this (despite winning). It started off badly by having a girlie on the splash screen.

PS. I don't reckon Fotherz would need 4 hours to finish a game against you Watergate (unless you're including the time required to read and explain the rules to you) ;)
