Fruit Machine Chat

Since im most definitely not a 'pro' player i often play the machines with groups of pals and / or the mrs (not married but she keeps hinting).

However our group is more of a "win £2 every so often but have a giggle at least while we're losing all our cash".

I know some of the pro players who earn a big wedge from machines would probably be against it, but a group outing of say 5-6 people i.e a Fruitchat day out (Like an old folks day out but without the smell or ladybeards) could be fun.

What about a UK battle? A day is picked and teams from Scotland and England start with say £20. Winning team is whoever has most money by say 5pm.

Ok so its probably a crap idea. Could be fun though.

It's a nice idea but the organisational issues would be a nightmare. In particular, how do you ensure that both teams had a fair selection of machines and games to play? - do you each play the same games in the same pubs alternately, and hence one team might have to try to play the good games only after the other team has emptied them, or do you have a different city each, when cities vary so much in the number and availability of decent machines - there are hundreds in London but most of them are in a pretty permanent state of being as tight as a gnat's arse.

Each team picks their own group of games (10 each?) in a 'line up against the wall' alternate-pick style, so that there is no direct conflict of interests (which would render half of the games played completely fruitless).

The team that was second to pick a game begins the pub picking (the pub that team B picks first is automatically team A's last port of call). Use a set number of vetted pubs.

So you get something like (in a very stripped-down version):

England: games chosen - DOND, WU, MB

Scotland: games chosen - Bullseye, Pepsi Challenge, STD

England: order of visiting pubs - Spoons, The Old Codger, Yates

Scotland: order of visiting pubs - Yates, The Old Codger, Spoons

Start with £1 each - that's all you need to make a £100 if you're good!

My idea was that the Scots stay in Scotland and the English stay in England, a kind of intercontinental feel. Do as many or as few pubs as you wish depending on pay out levels.

Pay out levels on machines etc would be irrelevant as it would be more of a banter thing between everyone than a serious competition.

I'd be well up for that, sounds like a right laugh.

Don't think you would need to get too serious with it - I think we could all be fair about how much we'd won or lost. Agree to a certain city each, starting float, and you can visit as many pubs and play as many machines as you can in the day.

i'll play for England (if selected), bring it on.

I'll play for Scotland, or if it occurs during the next 10 days, Canada.

Evidently it would be up to whoever is selected as team captains to pick, but id like to think that anyone who wanted a day out and a bit of fun would be included no matter what.

Setting a date could be an issue but you cant beat a nice summers day in the pubs of glasgow's west end / city centre (Team Scotland).

I'm interested. scotland or england fine for me...

On reflection, I don't think there's any need to pick a team - there are diminishing (even negative) returns over a certain number of players when playing individual games. If there are too many to crowd round the machine, players will just gravitate to the bar.

I expect that players will also self-select and not turn up if incompetent (in any case, if a captain picked from the information on this site only, the players will have self-selected anyway, as he or she only has their word to go on).

Just name a location and have people turn up - it will be a good laugh.

One question though - who's going to put together the press pack for 2012?
