Are there any quiz machines in Ireland at all?

I was in Dublin last weekend with all my pennies saved up any couldnt find a single one in any pubs I was in. Also very very few fruities.

I was in a bookies and they had no roulette terminals either. The manager told me that Irish gambling laws prohibited such machines at the moment.

So does anyone know if a quiz machine counts as one of these machines?

Or do they not have them due to having to convert coin mecs etc to Euros?

I cant help feeling the people of Ireland are missing out on the joys of an Itbox ripping the piss out of you. Maybe thats just me though.

I was in Dublin a couple of years ago and the only things i found were millionaire and weakest link standalones. The only places that had them were amusement arcades and ONE pub! so this doesn't seem to account for the law or the euro conversion being a problem.
To be honest i'd been harbouring a secret fantasy of re-visiting to find a city full of standalone cast-offs from the last 10 years and living a life of luxury.(Where did all these machines go? I mean crystal maze was a pretty distinct shape).
Oh well i guess great escapism will just have to be replaced by the great escape.

I played a paragon 1 today that had the euro symbol instead of the pound sign, also when you touched the screen during the preview cycle instead of the usual "insert 50p" message I got "insert 50c". It accepted my pound coin fine and registered it as 1 euro, I tried to collect £12 (euros) but it only paid out £5 in pound coins after which the bank showed zero :(

Could this have been an irish machine that has been clumsily converted to accept sterling? The games were the standard paragon ones except there was an option for 'megatouch world' which when pressed turned the machine into a megatouch with all the usual megatouch games! I will add that this machine was in Liverpool which is about as close to Eire as it gets in mainland UK!

Bundoran in Co Donegal and Salthill in Co Galway are 2 places. Easy cash cos there all the old 1`s your talking about. You`ll find them mainly in big arcades in the two places above but in most chippers and cab offices also.

Eire is open to all machines except FOBT in bookies. The bookies want them and are trying to get them as they earn in UK circa £600 per week, Hills, Coral, Ladbrokes company accounts published show exacxt figures per machine per week.
Eire is considered bandit counrty , as the police do not bother the operators, a lot of ex police run the arcades. Dr Quirkeys W Emporium, O connel Street SDublin is such an establishment. He has Casino machines paying out thousands of euros with multi roulette machines, in front they have some quiz machines, JPM , Paragon last time I was over there, can't recall much as it was a stag weekend. Anyway no company make machines specifically for the market as it is too small and AWP/ Casino is very tough competition.

I can vouch for a severe dearth of them, Foxy, especially in the north.

A few pubs (like Wetherspoons) have 1, but a vast majority prefer to have those god-awful poker machines. And you don't get a lot of the pub chains over there that you do here, which are usually where you're guaranteed to find one.
