so why (and how) has VB changed his name? i doubt it's humility or abashment. i can't think of any outlandish conspiracy theories at the moment. will the titboxes be displaying the winner[s] of the WUGM tourney or something?

How is very simple. You could simply click the [PROFILE] link at the top-right of the screen, then change your name to unknownpantysniffer. In fact, I urge you to do that in the interests of comedy.
