Live updates on a cabinet

Last night I was doing OK on an Ind:E (? - the one with a big widescreen cabinet that looks like the new Paragons but without the comical screen distortion). It had a reasonable, if relatively old, selection of games with a few that are always worth playing but the choice of games actually changed from one game to the next! Somewhere between starting a game of Football Crazy and losing my 50p trying to guess a Villa player called "MELAUGH" (Gavin Melaugh apparently, a reserve player from a few years ago who never made the first team
), the games selection changed. Three or four of the existing games disappeared, including Word Up which I was about to play.
What was odd is that the new games were similarly from a year or two ago (Snake Quiz, The Grid etc.) so it seems unlikely that this was a live update taking place from the boffins back at HQ - surely the replacement games would have been newer if that was the case? Perhaps the said boffins were watching my skilful play over a hidden webcam and decided to protect the Word Up jackpot from my inevitable huge score (1100 if I'm lucky)...
Has anyone experienced anything similar?
