humbling episode

celebrating pub culture is a big part of my leisure time. i enjoy boozing, pool, darts and obviously SWP.

the other day i was early for a meeting and it was raining down like piss, so i ducked into a shabby boozer for some shelter. i didn't want to drink so i just asked for a mug of tea; the publican tutted because he was watching DOND on telly but he came downstairs after a few minutes with my cuppa and said: "that'll be 80p".

80p? at least charge me a couple of quid for your time. i knew that i'd feel like pondlife because he had a paragon.

i didn't really want to win as i was accepting his hospitality but, the darts light was broken, so i had to do something rather than just sit down like a suited tool.

short story: £1 in, both PMP and PQ gave me a free JP. so i had £20 credit and i needed to be at a meeting in 15 minutes. i didn't want or need the £20 (certainly not as much as i want and need pleasant boozers). and this place was on its arse.

if it had been a 'spoons there would be no qualms and i'd have played games i'm good at. but a pub which can't afford to replace a bulb for the darts?

to my shame i collected it. but i still feel like shit.

Could have left the cash on the bar, ran out and shouted "NO DEAL".

Maybe you should have asked him for a pen and paper and just sat down and written out some of your favourite words instead.

However much I think Istenem is a fantastic bloke, I do love Quizmaster's off-the-cuff diggery!

THUD

CHTHONIC
BESERK
GRUEL
HEMIDEMISEMIQUAVER
NATALIE
ZEUGMA
BANJAX
and
NINETY-SIX

and my favourite colour is still lellow.

Gruel - always conjures up an image of thin, slightly lumpy and half-conjealed meat juice trickling from an old, dirty and cracked plate.

Grey tastless lumpy porridge I say.
Mini cauldron will do, but saucepans with no handles are fine. Cracks a bonus as well as it running down the side. Serve in a locale with no wallpaper

4 letter Terry Pratchett book.

You've got to start with R or T, as either of those will give you the answer.

Yes the R is essential. Eric or Mort it could be.
