Nothing wrong with doing country pubs when there's easy money available - there have been plenty times when a group of them have made for a nice Sunday run. Makes a pleasant change from wandering around polluted cities (and re "taking it on the chin" some of the city centre pubs I've played are about 100 times more risky/threatening than the average country ones).
I remember a Tote betting shop manager once saying to me, "you just go around playing these machines in the different shops". To which I replied, "everyone's got to earn a living somehow" - couldn't be arsed thinking of anything else as I knew I was going to get barred anyway, and to be fair I was already barred from that shop a few years beforehand
Plenty of bookies knew the score and didn't give a toss. Obviously with the demise of the fruits in betting shops it's somewhat irrelevant now.
