Had a go on Wordsoup in our local last night.
Normally only seems to be played by a handful of people. (Judging by the hi score table on which we mostly appear) :)
First thing I noticed was the £1 was over 2000!
We played a game, got on to the hi score board, and it was then that I noticed someone had had quizzicalities with a hi score of about 23xx, no name apart from the default wordsoup.

Any of you guys been in the Derby area?

I've had this word a few times, and got a picture on my phone of it.

I did have a few longer words, though they scored less.

Was the one you saw around the Nottingham/Mansfield area?

Derrrr! Just re-read your post & saw the word "Derby", so that kind of gives it away!

As you walk in the pub in question, was the quizzer over to the far left?

No, as you walk in from the road its on the right.
Coincidently the pub further down the road has also got a load of "anonymous" hi scores in the 1700-1900s.

You all are a lot better at this game than me. Only time I've won a pound is if it's at 500, and then getting QUIRKS as the longest. How do you get nice long words and lots of points at this game? is it just practise at it?

Googling something like 'Word Up Mafia' should bring up some useful tips on improving your score at Word Soup.

Managed 'EXCREMENTAL' today. I think I must have been channelling Quizmaster's opinion of this thread.

27 pages now, and the pain seems endless.

Actually...after that reply forget being good at it. I'm going to find every Word Up I can, and put MYSTERONS as the top word(If there are any that bad) and then start something!

word gaming gives a lot of people a lot of pleasure.

to post grumpy slights is niggardly imo; so my turn: pub quiz is a ghastly product with no art, wit or sophistication.
nobody ever wins on those things.
