Yeah, I get the feeling that it's been a tough summer for seaside locations.

Terrible weather combined with the (much discussed) downturn in the AWP trade means takings have probably been at an all-time low.

Also, so many more people are holidaying abroad these days because it's just as cheap and at least you're guaranteed SOME sun.

I would agree that an insurance job is the most likely suspect (bit of a coincidence at the end of summer with the schools just gone back)

It's a great shame that so many people apparently feel the need to go around destroying old, interesting and historic structures.

Very sad.

its been closed for a while if i remember correct. it had a arcade and then if u walk to the bottom it had a decent fishing area but all gone now. Shame always used to win on this pier in my youth.

But to be honest like its been said the seaside place have struggled recently and fleetwood is dying slowly so not a real shock its happened

If we can waste £15 billion on the Olympics we can ensure that piers are renovated around the country.

Not insurance, the owner says it wasn't insured.

More likely to get round the fact that the locals objected strongly to developers plans to turn it into "luxury apartments" or some such...

Not really, you are right in so much as there is undoubtedly some big ol' criminal action behind this, whatever happened.

Out of interest, I wonder how you do go about getting pier insurance.... not the sort of thing that you could challenge Churchill about.
Bet there is a big old excess on a pier policy!
