i was in a snooker club today and i noticed a guy listening to each coin he put inside the machine, nice enough he took time to explain he was checking to see if it was "backing" he said it was and no doubt, about 10 minutes later took the £250 jackpot. i was just wondering, if anyone could explain exactly the methods of how to check if a machine is backing with the £25 pub machines?

thanks allot.

cheers.

basically the term backing is when the machine is full, and the coins are dropping to the back of the machine as the hopper is full. the noise if hard to describe but its like a pound coin dropping onto a piece of wood sort of a dull thuding sound

With note changers and pub chains refilling daily of little use.

You can nearly always tell from the gameplay.

Agreed! If backing and playing well, you 'should' be alright. Used to love it when back in the late 90's (notechangers were non-existent) I'd be able to tell if it was backing solely by placing my foot lightly on the base of the machine whilst nserting a pound. This technique was invaluable in nightclubs where you had no chance of hearing it drop! :)

hmm, ive heard other people say they can feel it in loud clubs, I think personally I could only tell for sure about 20% of the time this way; the loud bass normally fucked up your chances!

Timing was of course, key, wait for the breakdown in the music... ;)
