sounds like she understands that machines make more money for the business than the drinks do!

Average pub works to 50% profit, so £1.50 per pint. Compared to half of 11p per spin on 78%. that's the same as c.27 spins per the same as a drink sold.

If only pubs actaully thought in these terms around here, rather than oh you won the JP you must be scamming it!

Aye if she has something that a few players will come in and lose a fiver or so on trying, before a player feels like taking it on for a small profit, then she's obviously screwed on to how the fruit machine works... still not sure why anyone would let you not buy a drink though, surely she'll make a couple of quid extra off everyone buying a couple of halves before they try it, plus i always feel slightly more inclined to take something on with a full drink in my hand.

Suprised pubs don't do free draws for fruit machine plays ie Get a raffle ticket with a pint and a draw on the hour gives £5 free plays (like the arcades) Anything to get turnover up.
All the managers in bookies do now is walk the floor enticing people to "try a few goes on the FOBT" or push the weekly competition.
DrP must be right as well. Many casuals play out of boredom and will play more with a pint to get through.

Depends, some pubs you could buy 5 pints sit down for 2 hours and still be barred after 1 pot
