Very interesting FOBT info

Was talking to some old Skool betting clerks, the type of guy whos been working in shops since the 70s and they said they maybe under threat. At the moment bookies have a gambling licence but may be forced to get a gaming licence as any place that slots/ fruits / terminals makes over 50% of the income needs a Casino licence. Supposedly casinos have been kicking off saying we have 4000 machines but 2.00 stake max where as a high street shop with no membership requirement has a 100.00 stake. Also all cash wagered and payed out is anonomys where casinos know who you are as you have to be a member with a photo taken.

Makes sense I think

that could get interesting... as if they had to have casino permits, they might as well have a proper roulette table.. lol

It does make sense as the law seems stupid.100 spins in Ladbrokes to win 500 but 2.00 in Gala to win 4000. When I played FOBTs the staff sit around chatting alot of the time and alot of the younger ones struggle to use the odds checker if I want to ask for bets such as over 136.5 checkout in Darts or a Reverse forcast in Dogs.

The funniest thing is when they dont understand the 0.5 lol

Its not that, there just seems to be very different rules regarding electronic betting

I can bet 5p to win 100 in my CIU bet min 25p in Wetherspoons to win 70 2.00 to win 4000 in a Casino and 100 to win up to 500 in a bookies.

All require you to be 18 plus yet so different rules. Only thing bookies dont serve drink BUT most are sited next to pubs CIUS anyway

Its stupid the stake difrence, why is a local going to want to play a quid a stake to win 70, when they can stake the same amount and win 500. thats why this game is going down hill.

I think thats the whole point the Casinos are kicking off with the bookies

full casino license means gross profits on gaming are taxed at 50% I thought. Does seem unfair indeed that tax is a lot lower for the lbos

Well can't they just switch them off for a while when they get near to the 50% limit? It's also time they allowed SWPs in LBOs as they are only place in the country where they are not permitted.

£100 stake to win £500 - is 4-1 - so distinctly more in line with bookies type bets - where people bet hundreds / thousands on short odd prices regularly. Maybe thats part of the distinction - because to the best of my knowledge - this sort of machine is not allowed in arcades / clubs etc.

I personally think its great if the UK gambling industry is held to account. Those sports operators have had it good for too long. If I was a casino I'd be brassed off also with the status quo. And casino based gambling will always be safer for patrons than some of the small dimly lit bookies. Everything is on camera in casinos. You tend to get more homeless and other diversions in bookies from my experience - as with casino membership, it's easier to keep trouble out.

Where I am it difficult to find any small dimly lit independent bookies anymore. Hills, Laddies, Coral and Betfred have just forced them all out. It has just been surprising how many new bookies shops have opened around here in the last few years, with two or even three new shops almost next door to each other. Presumably all this is fueled by FOBT money.
