Forum Upgrade

Post by admin »

The forum will be getting a much needed upgrade, hopefully by the end of the month.

Currently looking at which forum software to use, and the contenders are vBulletin and Ipboard.

Anyone have any other ideas or Opinions?

Cheers,

Mike.

Are the other options actually better, Mike?

The current board has pretty much all bases covered ...

Of the few forums I visit, this by far is the easiest to navigate and easiest on the eye.

You do whatever is best for the forum though Mike. At least its active enough and worthy of an upgrade. :D

agree with the fact on ease of use as far as front end is concerned.

behind the scenes there are a few niggles , one of the main ones that happens from time to time is that people get randomly locked out for no reason, it's all very well when it happens to a regular poster who knows who to contact to get back in but i'm thinking that we may have lost loads of posters over the years like this.

we also have no report post button this would be a welcome addition as well as the other mod tools that are available.

the chat box feature has been discussed before and many were in favour.

i voted vbulletin.

also ,,,,,,,,,, i think the new forum will be able to give us mods some new powers.

with the power to direct ban ,,,,,,,,, without us having to run to mike for every decision .

dont worry though ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, the power will never be used willy nilly ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, with at least 3 mods having to be in agreement before any action is taken .

banning is a final resort.

no ,,,,,,,,,, not currently ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, nobody is

theres calm in the waters at the mo.

the thing is ,,,,,,,,,,,, we want people to be totally without fear of expression ,,,,,,,,,, and i think i speak for all the mods when i say were advocates of free speach.

it only gets nauseous when pointless insults and threats are made .

even then we let it slide to an extent ,,,,,,,,,,,, hoping first that the parties involved can sort it out themselves .

but when it carries on relentless ,,,,,,,,, or is deemed too threatening ,,,,,,,,, we have to step in for the overall harmony and well being of the site.

you mog ,,,,,,,, bite at even the slightest provocation or jib ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, try to fight with a battle of wits and clever comebacks ,,,,,,,,, try to turn it into fun ,,,,,,,,,,,

Can we add a feature that automatically suppresses extraneous commas?

Other than that, I would agree with what others have posted - the current format really is easy on the eye and I've never encountered any problems using the site, so hopefully any future format will be similarly good.
