Query on previous jackpot amounts

I got into AWPs in late 2001, so I only saw the tail end of the £15 JP era and onwards. Cat D £5s & £8s were already in existance. In my 9½ years, I saw increases in Jan 2002, Jan 2007 and mid-2009 to £25/£35/£70 respectively for cat C.

When did cat C £15 come out and what were the previous amounts and year numbers before that? Perhaps go as far back to £2 JP in 1980s if possible? I'm really curious because I've never seen a cat C below £15. When did cat D £5 / £8 get deployed?

Thanks :-)

I'm pretty sure it was 1998 around September the £15 jackpots came out. Before that it was £10 "all cash" - tokens were done away with after £8 jackpots. Before that, I haven't a clue.

I wish they'd get rid of these bloody £70 jackpots, far too big, draw too much attention to us!!!!

As a general rule of thumb there has been a triennial review of stakes and prizes for a long time ,however, there was certainly more than 3 years between 25 And 35. Also not sure of 35 to 70.

15 jpt was late 97 I think because I helped a friend set up an arcade in february 98 and we had upgrade kits for Maygays and crests.

Yes, I'm pretty sure that £25/£35 was more than 3 years apart. As they were both during my 'time', I remembered them as being Jan 2002 for £25 and Jan 2007 for £35 - 5 years apart. Then £70 was 2½ years later, mid-2009.

£15 JP was indeed circa-1998. I remember the first one I saw, a £10 Public Enemy had been replaced by a £15 Powerspins (JPM) in a nearby pub (long since demolished). It was quite exciting when you collected knockouts and saw the possibility of winning £15 - it seemed like a decent prize at the time!

Noteys were trialled in late-98/early-99 - mainly on Genesis cabs - and were notechangers (ie. you'd stick the note in, the machine would freeze for sometimes upwards of 30 seconds or more, you'd worry that it hadn't registered, then the hopper would spit out the coins without committing any of it to credit).

IIRC the consultation re. the increase to the £25 JP began in the run-up to the following Election and thus was handily timed for the industry to twist a few arms and get what it wanted.
