My bet's on an insider in the gaming industry, perhaps one of the coders? This is of course long before companies started clamping down with strict rules for employees, disciplinary action, garden leave and tribunals that are enforced now.

Everyone will remember when they first heard of someone who knew the score, but i doubt they were the first.

Antony from a thriving university town in Oxfordshire.
Some say that behind Chuck Norris's beard there isn't a chin, there's just another fist. Behind this guy's is just another sack of £s

I was making regular money before it went to 10 pound cash,it wasn't 100% consistent though and it would be fair to say that I had an unfair advantage a lot of the time as I was able to obtain sizeable quantities of machine tokens by various means.
I first player I knew of was an old chap we called the professor .he was known to me about the time of 4 pound token jpts but already had a reputation amongst other locals in my area,he used to travel and was doing early quizzers as well as fruits.
He must have been in his late fifties or early sixties back in the mid 80's.
