First barring...

Post by Shaggerty »

Just got barred, not from the pub, JUST from the fruit machines in the pub. I'm welcome to drink there, play pool and the quizzy etc. Reason? "They aren't making any money thanks to me"

No more Indy, Casino 5 Liner and LPDOND for me! :-(

So I contacted their head office, waiting for the area manager to contact me. Right or wrong to do?

I probably would have just let the matter drop, after all you have lost an indy there... no great loss in the current climate. If you enjoy the odd beverage in said pub with mates is not worth muddying the waters.

Yeah but he won't be quite so happy when the crap machines get replaced with a STC and an emptiable CnR r2v.

I think he's right to challenge it - any area manager worth their salt will know that fruit machines = profit even if they are being played by people who know what they're doing. I'm assuming he's doing nothing 'below-the-belt', of course ...

It's a matter of principle, not just inconvenience.
This machine may at times offer a choice where the player has every chance of bankruptcy

I've always said I'd never cheat at anything in life. :P
I don't key machines or whatever. The money is my own that I play with, so I feel slightly hard done by that I've done nothing wrong. :P

I'm welcome in there for a game of pool and a drink, so no biggy really. :-)

Dress as a woman? Only on weekends. ;)

All the bar staff have been told about the situation, though they WERE defending me, saying I'm legit etc.

It's happened to me dozens of times mate, just accept it, though it is a bit of a nause.

Give it to someone else then maybe after a few weeks of seeing no difference in takings, the gaffer might relent. Possible though not probable.

I had to bar a young man from my pub today. I watched him intently, he was obviously on the fiddle as he bought a soft drink and went straight onto our new machine, I think it's called endemol for those of you who are interested. He was on it for ages, but rather than bar him after the customary three minutes of maximum playing time, I let things run and I watched him put in eighty two pound coins and he collected out seventy.
Now if that isn't dodgy, I don't know what is, I sent him packing with a flea in his ear, we don't need his sort as customers.

Personally I've never been back into a pub that I've been told I can't play the machines in but I'm welcome to drink in. Because the way I see it, they shouldn't be able to pick and choose what I do when I'm in there. And I shouldn't feel like I'm under suspicion and being watched.

Furthermore, you know the landlord is basically a huge twat so why on earth you'd want to go there is beyond me.

Just wait 6 months/year/2years before going back in and see how the land lies. Plenty of other pubs with pool tables and beer.
